"New Royal Ballet AD selected?" |
From the Arts Diary section in todays Times....THE rumour mill at Covent Garden has gone into overdrive with news that the search for a new artistic director of the Royal Ballet is now over. Although no official announcement has yet been made, it is believed the successful candidate to fill Anthony Dowell's shoes is the Australian dancer Ross Stretton. For the past two years he's been running the Australian Ballet. Before that he was a principal dancer and assistant director at American Ballet Theatre (ABT). Stretton's appointment will come as something of a surprise. He has no previous connection with the Royal Ballet, a fact which may raise questions about his commitment to maintaining the Royal's unique heritage repertoire. However, it's expected he will feel right at home at Covent Garden - boss Michael Kaiser is an old friend from ABT.

Quite a big splash on this in the print version of the Guardian today, presented as definite, not rumour - don't know if it's made the web version yet

It is fact indeed and it was not in the electronic version of the Guardian when I specifically hunted for it - it may get added during the day though.

I wonder if anyone in the States has any comments about Stretton's time at ABT?
