"This is Nureyev! - NFT season in January"

"This is Nureyev!" is a season of films, curated by the excellent Jane Pritchard, and organised by the National Film Theatre, to mark the 10th anniversary of the death of Rudolf Nureyev. It includes items from the BBC Archive, material rarely seen in the UK and the best available prints of his films.

The season will run through January and will include

  • Le Corsaire from An Evening with the Royal Ballet (1963); Music in Camera (The Nutcracker Pas de Deux BBC1962); Monitor, Nureyev (BBC 1962).
  • Tonight (BBC 1977); Valentino (1977)
  • Les Sylphides from An Evening with the Royal Ballet (1963); Omnibus: Nureyev with Lindsay Andersen (BBC 1974); Flower Festival in Genzano from both the Bell Telephone Hour with Maria Tallchief(1962) and Gala performance with Merle Park (BBC 1974), Omnibus: Nureyev & Brind in rehearsal (BBC 1982).
  • Romeo and Juliet (1966) with Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn and The Royal Ballet
  • Noureev et Petipa (Cinematheque de la danse 1996). Screened in French with English translation. Includes material from the National Ballet of Canada and Paris Opera Ballet.
  • Swan Lake (1966). Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn and Vienna State Opera Ballet.
  • Release: Nureyev's Nutcracker (BBC 1968)- The Royal Ballet: The Nutcracker (BBC 1968) with Nureyev and Merle Park.
  • Le Corsaire, This is Rudolf Nureyev (1964); Le Jeune Homme et La Mort (1966) with Zizi Jeanmaire; Gala Performance Romeo & Juliet Balcony pas de deux (BBC 1971) with Lynn Seymour; Diane and Acteon (Bell Telephone Hour 1964) with Svetlana Beriosova
  • Don Quixote (1972)-Nureyev with Lucette Aldous and the Australian Ballet
  • Nureyev on Television - Programme includes Music in Camera Giselle (BBC 1962); Gala Performance: Gayane (BBC 1963)- Gala Performance: Swan Lake Act III (BBC 1971); Nureyev and the Dutch National Ballet (BBC 1969) and other treasures.

  • Final screening dates have yet to be announced. The season will run through the month of January. Postal booking opens at the NFT on 11th December. Personal booking opens on 20th December.

       Jane, you say "revised" - does that mean that the NFT has made some changes, or was it just that I made some errors in my original posting? I was in there at the end of last week and there was nothing to indicate it. Either way, thanks for posting them.

       Alison, I think the NFT originally got the date of R&J wrong, and they changed some of the times slightly. This is the list sent to me on Friday by Jane Pritchard, so I assume it's correct!
