"Cojocaru out of Giselle?"

I've been in the library this afternoon trying to confirm this, but can't get hold of a copy of the Guardian. However, a friend rang me this morning and told me that according to one of the Guardian supplements (which presumably have a lead time of several days, so this can't be a very sudden thing) Alina Cojocaru has been signed off by her doctor and won't be dancing in Giselle. If so, this is obviously a great shame. Has anyone reading this got a copy of the Guardian and if so could they fill in anything I've missed or correct it if necessary? Obviously whichever supplement it was doesn't appear online, as I've just searched the Guardian site for "Cojocaru" and not found anything.

There's no confirmation on the ROH website yet, but then as far as I'm aware they haven't even got around to confirming Putrov as Albrecht on there yet. Wonder who'll be dancing the first night? Yoshida'd make a nice change

It's in 'the guide' booklet. "The advertised cast this season had been the sublime pairing of Alina Cojocaru and Johan Kobborg, but Cojocaru has been told to take a much needed break by her doctors. Her replacement is likely to be one of the other Giselle's dancing this month..."

If it's true Alison I'm absolutely heartbroken...and rather mad since a) she danced Bayadere a couple nights ago and was recast for 'Vertiginous' yesterday and if she's that injured she should be resting, and b) the booklet probably WAS published a few days ago and if the Guardian can get that much notice then the ROH should make an effort to inform the rest of us through it's website. I've emailed ROH - sometimes they reply and sometimes not.

As for Putrov his name is up with Yoshida's for Giselle on the website.

I'm upset about this, too, if it's true. I was going to travel to London specially to see her. I suppose the reason for it not being on the ROH website could be that although they know Alina is out, they haven't yet decided who is going to take her place.

Have just been over to the RB cast changes page AGAIN and there's still no word. Interestingly, Alina is still listed to dance tonight (replacing someone else) in The Vertiginous Thingy. If anyone's going to the ROH tonight, perhaps they could tell us if Alina's dancing...or pick up more information.

It could just be that the doctor has told her to take x weeks off and they begin, for instance, next week. I had a feeling that the lead time for the "What's On" type supplements was the best part of a week, in which case you'd think that the ROH could have put a "TBA" up on the website in the meantime. As for who it might be, well, Kobborg could partner any of the Giselles apart from Bussell, so I suppose it depends on who's fit. Disappointed not to see Alina - I was looking forward to seeing how her interpretation had matured over the past year.

Cojocaru is still on for opening night. I asked the RB Box-office and they contacted the Royal Ballet directly. "Newspapers tend to exaggerate" apparently.

I'm there, I'll let you know (and I'm in the third row stalls so I can actually see their faces this time!).

Philip B. if you are in the third row of the stalls you may be lucky to see anything at all. My wife only saw Angel at the peak of his jumps in Bayadere from such a seat. We changed seats for Acts 2&3 and things were a little better but at the price or indeed any price these seats are a disgrace.

Well, third row seat views aside (at least you can see their faces from down there under the awful lighting!), Alina was certainly on radiant form (i.e. normal) tonight, one slip off left pointe aside. However, I also witnessed the great disappearing act of Tamara Rojo, presumably another added to the ever-growing injury list...

   >the great disappearing act of Tamara Rojo
Tamara appeared in Por Vos Muero and was the first lady on the right during curtain calls.

You're right, of course. I just thought she danced the principal role last time but just checked my cast list and found it was Morera then, too. Obviously my Memories are not keeping accurate Enduring Images!
