Hi, Jamie preceeded Laura as Young British Dancer of the Year in the competition held in 2000 , and as a result of winnig that competition , and as mentioned he represented the UK in the European Dancer of the Year 2001. He has been seen on the stage as Covent Garden , lingering in the back ground during Don Quicxote as an extra , gaining experiance. Juat a small question , are all the new dancers British ??????, Please do not take that wrongly as no way am i prejudicial , but the Royal Ballet need to stock up with young British talent. Good luck to all of them in their careers. David |

Read the news - so pleased about Kristen McNally. I have been following her since she was a little dancer on the north west festival scene. My 13 year old daughter, who is now at Arts Ed Tring, always admired her, as did her audience. She was a joy to watch on stage and we were delighted to see her win both the IDTA "Miss Dance" and the Senior Ballet Championship at Sheffield a couple of years ago (double whammy) before she was accepted at RBS. She was always kind and very helpful to all the younger children, including my daughter when they were both in National Youth Ballet in 1998. Well done, Kristen - looking forward to following your career progression with interest! |

I remember Pietra Mello-Pittman from the British Dancer 2000 Finals so must be British therefore. She was commended for her performance but not placed. I vividly recall her gentle, unforced style and very pretty face. Where is Samara Downes? She is another dancer at RBS who must be now near graduation. Lovely dancer and was also hoping that she would go to the Royal Ballet too? Does anyone have any info? |

It seems that the RB are departing from their policy of recruiting dancers from other companies and schools are refocusing on their own school's talent. I think this is a welcome developement. When was the last time they recruited so many dancers - that is is nearly 10% of entire company! |

SLH was asking for info on Samara Downs. I can help. She is not yet in the third (graduating) year. She is only half way through the second year which means she is still doing her A levels. I agree though , she is a beautiful dancer and has won many impressive awards so I think she has a great career ahead. She was lovely in the Nutcracker and Bayadere with RB company. Did you by any chance see the piece specially choreographed for her by Kevin Haigen at Yorkshire BS ?. He is quite a genius and brought out such qualities in her that I have rarely seen from such a youngster in Britain. Her understanding of the music and what he wanted was uncanny. I believe she was recently awarded the Alicia Markova Award . I shall certainly be looking out for her.She has charisma and the gift to go with it. |

This thread seems to have become a channel for advertising a certain teacher and their school. I dont think that was the original idea of the thread and could be construed as merely a cheap plug . I am in no way biased but the last 2 entries are a bit 'obvious' in their intent. |
