"A view from France"

There's a French web site - www.culturekiosque.com - which has a section dedicared to dance, with quite a number of interesting articles on POB dancers and French companies.

A recent browse brought up an article on the resignation of Dowell. It said (a small extract)

"He became director in 1986, when the level of the Royal Ballet was at a very low ebb - there was virtually no corps de ballet, no money, and many were even questioning the continuation of the troupe in residence at the Opera House. The company inherited by the gentle and retiring Dowell had been grossly mismanaged by the previous directorship and had gone completely off the rails."

Well, this sounds a bit harsh to me ....(what, no corps ?) but is this how it is perceived elsewhere ?

That is very French - more opinion and theories then fact!

Of course the RB is hardly setting the world on fire at the moment!
