"Paris Opera Ballet web site"

I would like to commend the Paris Opera Web Site. Not only is it the most pleasing to eye graphically but it has a superb on line booking service which is available in English as well as French. You also have the ability to book now and pay up to 10 days before the performance!

I would say it is the best ballet/opera web site of any company!

If you are interested in going to Paris then you might want to give the POB a look. They often perform on Sunday afternoon and Eurostar offer cheap day trips which will give you a few hours in glorious Paris before the show and enough time afterwards for dinner before the train home!

   Here is the link :

http://www.opera-de-paris.fr/

I agree this is one of the finest websites, especially since they decided to indicate the cast (though not really in advance, ie 10 days before the first representation) which was not the case before.

The only thing I miss is that you don't have dancers' bio, photos as in the ABT websites.

Perhaps for the booking POB site is the best site but for the other things, as cast, biographies of dancers, it's the worst I saw. Look at all the website they include the bio of all their dancer from principal to corps de ballet. I find POB Site awful.

OK Catherine, here's the deal. We do a straight swap - the POB site for the RB site. I'd take the excellent design, programme details plus lots of good quality photos in the POB one for the lack lustre RB site with bios, which are in the programmes I have at home in any case. And the ballet.co bios are better. Some of the US sites which combine all of these features are truly excellent examples.

So, I really must claim the wooden spoon for ballet company websites for our own RB - the pale grey text found here and there and indeed the general lack of visual interest for what is a visual artform always leaves me puzzled, to say the least.

The lack of dancer's bio is a problem with the POB site. I would therefore have to give back the New York City Ballet its crown as the best ballet company web site on the web.

But it is shocking that the RB still does not have on-line booking. They had it far easier then the POB in that the house was close down for 2 years so they had ample time to test their software. When this is coupled with a grossly unsatisfactory telephone system then I think it is disgraceful. If the Paris Opera Ballet can have on-line booking then there is no excuse as to why the RB does not have one!

Once again Britain starts of ahead of the European but through sheer idleness and excessive caution the rest of Europe is allowed to overtake us. It is history repeating itself!!

The on line booking exists like that since before holidays. Before, the tickets on line cost 60 F or more than a normal seat.
At this moment, we pay every form of booking except at guichet 10F more by ticket. And they say we don't change seat price OK but if they use the same number of seat except for guichet, the price is the same because 395 f more 10 F cost 405 F, it's the pprice of the higher seat this year. I know it's often cheap than other theater in Europe, but the use is incorrect.
Every french balletomane is angry after the system of booking, by postal we never have place we want, by phone, they don't have really a contingent of seats, by internet I saw they indicate number of seats but if you don't know the stage and the show room, they could be indicate on the plan. At the guichet we never have the place we want, they're not book by posting, by phone or by internet. We, french balletomanes, are often dissapointing on their kind of tickets gestion. And every year, they change the place in show room, low price in low category and near to stage are more and more little.
I think we are always dissapointed by what we have and we use and think that stranger has always better things. It's not right at 100%.

Catherine, there will be a time when you can pick out your seats from a seat map. You just point your mouse at the the seat you want and click! United Airline already has it for flight bookings.

Regarding postal bookings - I find that by specifically asking for a particular seat they will give it to me.

Is their a membership plan at the Paris Opera that allows you advance postal booking before the "normal" postal booking date?

10FF to book online. That is not to bad. Soon it will be the otherway - booking online will be free and booking by telephone will cost extra.
