"DVD some initial thoughts"

Do not get the ARTHOUS Swan Lake, it is a dreary German production with less then impressive dancing. The ABT La Corsaire is a better bet in my view!

The Paris Opera Ballet videos of Bayadere and Romeo and Juliet are very good. My review of La Bayadere is available on this site (go to home and look for video review link). I said it was very good except for the poor direction which takes far too many long shots. This problem has been largely overcome on DVD because of the zoom function. Any scene can be magnified 2x or better. This allows me to focus in on the far too distant dancers. Morevoer you zoom any part of the screen with a joystick. It is is to track the dancers so they do not dance of the screen.

DVD are divided in 30 or so chapters with instant access. This allows you to jump to your favorite scenes quickly. It is wonderful.

I understand Covent Garden will release some DVD from their back catalogue. I hope that will include Sleeping Beauty and Manon!!
