Very little today - there's an FT review of Monday's 'Manon' but not sure the link will work:

Daring but bankable ballet

And today's Daily Telegraph has an article by Norman Lebrecht which partly deals with problems at Covent Garden. Sorry, don't know the URL as usual.

Judith Mackrell in The Guardian is very impressed with the latest performance of the Royal's 'Manon'. She points out, 'Given that Mukhamedov is 40, Cope 37 and Guillem is 35, the performance couldn't make a better case for the supremacy of the older dancer.'

Thanks Ann. Here are the saturday links...

The battle for Balanchine. George Balanchine was a genius to rank with Picasso and Stravinsky, but critics claim the choreographer's legacy at New York City Ballet has been crucially misunderstood by his successor. Ismene Brown reports:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=000148269364269&rtmo=fqMq00ls&atmo=99999999&pg=/et/00/7/22/btball22.html

Unsavoury material served up raw. Clement Crisp on Deborah Colker Dance. Barbican Theatre, London EC2:

Backstage Drama And Bolshoi Power. Sheer dance power is what the Bolshoi Ballet has brought back to New York. There was no better showcase than its exciting second program of the season, which introduced a phalanx and variety of dancers on a mixed bill that ranged from Marius Petipa to George Balanchine. ANNA KISSELGOFF 07/21/00:
Bolshoi piece with long url!

Poison in the Garden. Norman Lebrecht reports on the declining importance of the arts in the political agenda:

Cope springs eternal. Jann Parry on Manon, Royal Opera House, London WC2 and Mix, Barbican Theatre, London EC2:

A gripping performance. If parts of Deborah Colker's show for the Barbican's Brazil season lack drama, you will forgive all when you see her amazing finale, says NADINE MEISNER:

some Clement Crisp FT reviews. But FT URLs are strange beasts and hence may not work in all browsers or for so very long...
