"Bull in new Siobham Davies work"

There's a press release at the ROH website, which, in adition to noting Ms Bull's recent CBE, announces that "From 15 to 19 July she also appears in 13 Different Keys, a new work by Siobhan Davies.....

13 Different Keys is commissioned and produced by Artangel in association with The Royal Ballet, supported by the London Dance Network, administered by the Arts Council of England and the Quercus Trust"

It doesn't say where or any other details. I recall that she discusses starting to work with Davies in her book, but I'd heard nothing more of this till now. But this does sound rather tantalising. Anyone know any further details, any views ? Do Artangel have some connection with site specific work ?

Thanks for posting that, Lynette. I did see details about it the other day, but can't remember where at the moment. And yes, I think it is a site-specific work.

LAST EDITED ON 23-Jun-99 AT 03:59 PM (GMT)

Given the interest in this site-specific work, I attach the press release, which I have just received. It certainly promises to be an exciting evening and forms a welcome innovation from the RB.

ARTANGEL PRESENTS

'13 DIFFERENT KEYS'

The Atlantis Building, Brick Lane, London E1 - 15 to 19 July, 9.00pm

DEBORAH BULL, GILL CLARKE, SIOBHAN DAVIES
On Thursday 15 July Artangel makes a dramatic return to the cavernous

In 13 Different Keys, under the direction of leading choreographer
Siobhan Davies, The Royal Ballet's Deborah Bull performs alongside
Davies' long standing collaborator Gill Clarke, current Siobhan Davies
Dance Company member Matthew Morris and two other Royal Ballet artists,
Jenny Tattersall and Peter Abegglen.

Reiko Ichise (viol da gamba) and Carole Cerasi (harpsicord) complete the
ensemble for 13 Different Keys, set to the contrasting music of the
early 18th Century French composer Marin Marais. Production lighting is
by Peter Mumford.

Box Office : 0171 387 0031 (The Place) - tickets on sale from 14 June. Price 14.50, conc. 10. Seats available on all nights at the time of posting.

Notes to Editors

Artangel commissions and produces new work by contemporary artists. Each
commission is shaped by its location - by the spatial and historical
characteristics of a building, a natural environment or a particular
medium. And each project has at its centre the principle of
collaboration - between artist and place, between different forms of
expression and between the finished work and the audience. Previous
Artangel projects include Michael Clark, Mmm ... Kings Cross Depot
(1992), Rachel Whitehead, House, East London (1993/94) and Brian Eno &
Laurie Anderson, Self Storage, Wembley (1995).

As one of the great classical ballet companies of the world The Royal
Ballet is committed to creating new choreography, music and design; to
providing a showcase for heritage repertory; and to breathing new life
into the established classics making them relevant for today's
audiences. Alongside this, and vital to the future, the company's
outreach work with young people and adults throughout the country brings
enlightenment, knowledge and enjoyment.

Siobhan Davies founded her own company in 1988. Siobhan Davies Dance
Company is widely regarded as a flagship of independent contemporary
dance. This reputation is built on a body of work that, for more than a
decade, has provided audiences with original ideas and fresh theatrical
experiences.

Commissioned and produced by Artangel in association with The Royal
Ballet, supported by the London Dance Network, administered by the Arts
Council of England and the Quercus Trust

Davies spoke about this work in the Radio 4 programme a couple of days ago. I hadn't realised it was not for the new Opera House season, though - it certainly wasn't clear from her interview.
