The Financial Times has Clement Crisp's review of the RB's Diaghilev programme but it is only accessible through the usual FT search function: go to http://www.globalarchive.ft.com/search-components/index.jsp)
and search on 'ballet', setting the time period to 'today'.

Meanwhile, here's one I borrowed from balletalert: NYCB have started putting photos of last week's performances up on their website (RB please copy!!), and here are some of the latest -

This should work as the direct link, Lynette. The problem is the use of frames on the Times site. I think Bruce has a bit of text to say how to deal with such pages.

'My appointed time is up'. Vivien Duffield is one of the most important fundraisers for the arts in this country. She tells June Ducas how she does it, and reveals for the first time that she must soon leave her beloved Royal Opera House:

Looking for the personal touch. The Diaghilev series (of concerts) ended on a muted note, says Andrew Clements:

Obviously there are a lot of snobs here who do not read the Sunday Mail!!! Why is not goood enough for you!

It is about Volochova, who having left the Bolshoi now has shacked up with one the trustees of the English National Ballet who has in turn left his wife of 20 years for this Russian femme fatale.

Apparently in the best traditions of mistress keeping this sugar daddy has put her up in a £1000 week luxury flat and is taking her to all the "to be seen" night clubs in London.

The paper has portrayed her as Russian bimbo and has said that the critics have panned her dancing ability. She was certainly pretty dire in Swan Lake which she performed with the Bolshoi when they came over last year.

Now will you please buy your own copy of Mail or are you too disgusted with this sordid story to have any further interest in it!

Thanks Eugene. I don't know what the fuss is all about - she is a charming and fun companion and I consider a £1,000 a week a bargain in London these days.....

The Mail is a good paper I'm sure but it just seems wrong to have ones daily reading come in the same size as the Dandy and Beano! (and they don't cover dance well either!!)

Bruce, for £1000 a week I will dress up as a girl and be your companion! Interested?

Actually if you wanted to do an updated version of La Sylphide you could take this story!

Think about it, the modern day ballerina is the sylph of the 18th century - a sort of innocent (supposedly) temptrous that no man can resist! In this case here a visiting Russian ballerina snatches away a rich business from his wife! Perfect! Life imitating art!

I know that AMP have already done a remake of La Syphide but now they might want to consider a second attemp!

The scenario for the death of the ballerina...it could not be easier.

A jealous business rival introduces the love-struck business man to Exctasy pills or some other designer drugs . He gives the pills to the ballerina so she can dance the night away! She has an allergic reaction to them and dies!

His wife leaves hime and takes half his money and the ballerina's family in Russia sues him the the rest of his money!

Maybe it is the cynic in me, but as the article mentions ENB's dates at the RAH, is this the latest in a string of sensational publicity in order to advertise the company's season?

This was actually the first thing that came into my head when I saw the headlines, but when I actually read the story....I don't think that a member of the ENB board would agree to his name being used like that, and certainly he wouldn't put his marriage at risk just for free publicity. I think it's probably a true and rather sad story and I would hate it if it actually did sell more tickets for ENB.

My understanding was that he was a member of the board of the ENB *School*, rather than the company. But that, of course, isn't such a good position from which to "scandalise the ballet world"

By the way, Eugene, don't you read your personal e-mails?? I haven't received a reply from you in days. Get off the web & read your e-mails!!! (ha-ha)
