"Tutu Pattern "

I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction in obtaining a pattern for a tutu. I am mainly interested in the younger age group (7 - 12 yrs) and am experiencing considerable difficulty in obtaining a good tutu
pattern.

barbara, the RAD Gazette has, over the years, run an intermittent series of articles on "How to dress the dancer", including patterns!

if you can find a way to access the back issues, such as by visiting RAD headquarters and asking to use their library (i wonder if 'outsiders' are permitted? - perhaps best to phone first...), then you could probably photocopy the tutu-types you are interested in. each pattern is scaled down to go on an A3 page, together with LOTS of tiny print instructions and valuable comments.

it was an excellent series - i would like to see the lot published as a little book...you could suggest that to RAD as a fundraiser!

good luck!

   Grace,

I have noticed those pattern articles in the Gazzette and, yes I will contact the RAD and see if they can help - although I did phone them once before and the girl I spoke to wasn't much help. I will suggest to them that they perhaps put a book together and raise some money for the Dancers Benevolent fund or something.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know if these links will be any help to you. This first is a company in the US that supplies tutu patterns but you might find some of the books could be available over here.
Danceworld is a UK company that make tutus to order but they might be able to help you out with getting hold of a pattern.
Also Dance Books publish a book called 'How to dress dancers' which is listed as a guide to making dance costumes and accessories.

   Caz,

Thanks for that information - the American company has a tutu pattern specially designed for children - so hopefully that will solve my problems. I already have the 'How to dress a dancer' book which only gives guidelines into making the tutu.

Thanks again.
