"NDT2 at Sadler's"

I have but 5 minutes to tell people in around London to go and see NDT2 (Nederlands Dans Theater 2) at Sadler's - its' on tonight and Saturday only. To say I enjoyed seeing them last night is a massive understatement.

They are performing 3 pieces (Kylian, Inger, Naharin) all widely different, eminently enjoyable and cramped with strong dance and more than a little fun. I won't spoil it for anybody but there are some lovely surprises in the night and the dancers, young(ish) as they may be, are first rate and so very fast and strong.

I will do a review, but at the weekend. If you want more of a feel for NDT here is a link that will bring up reviews:

Ah well, I thought it was the worst programme I'd ever seen the company do. Great dancers, though.

I really enjoyed it! The dancing was stunning and, although some elements didn't work very well, I came out of the theatre feeling as though I'd been to a great party.

This seems to be a programme that really polarises reactions. I fall on the 'I absolutely hated it' side! I thought also that it was rotten programming, in that the first two ballets used in exactly the same dance vocabulary and even the costumes used the same colour range.

The third one had me closing my eyes in embarrassment and longing for the evening to end.

However, there were standing ovations at the end. Lots of people were obviously haveing a great time.

Amazing - I thought it the best of all the NDT 2 programmes I've seen! Given I normally like their stuff anyway I was in happy land indeed.

How odd. I agree with all of you. It was my first experience of Kylian and I loved his piece, and also Johan Inger's piece; both were choreographically inventive, touching and witty with great opportunities for the dancers to show off their considerable talents and gorgeous bodies, but I have to agree with Juliet that there was a certain similarity between them, especially in the colour schemes. The last piece, by Ohad Naharin, I absolutely hated. It was a real kick-step-kick piece worthy only of a West End musical. On the whole, though, it was a great evening and I'd love to see these dancers again in a different programme.
