Rojo gives her Royal assent. One of Britain's leading ballerinas is moving home, as Debra Craine reports:
http://www.the-times.co.uk/news/pages/tim/00/04/03/timartdan02001.html

An innocent, a tornado, and a cat. Ismene Brown reviews Manon by the Royal Ballet, Covent Garden:

You missed a couple of letters in the Times, one complaining about the increased interval length and virtually accusing the management of being more interested in selling food and giving patrons enough time to eat it than putting on performances. (I have to say, the same uncharitable thought had occurred to me!).

(And if there is anyone at the ROH reading this, I have to say I for one am getting very fed up of missing my last practicable train due to performances overrunning so much!)

on the other hand - if people are forking out 6.50 (is that correct) for a round of sandwiches /or part of a dinner and don't get enough time to eat them then the moaning would be even greater!!

There's a good article about the BRB's Ashton programmes in the Birmingham Post, with input from Lynn Seymour - but the only way to access it seems to be via the FT's advanced search

The Evening Standard had a big article about Ron Freeman, who is head of makeup and wigmaking (I think!) at the ROH and is due to retire shortly. I think he will be sorely missed.

How to save the company I love. The Royal Ballet has lost what used to make it special, says its one-time golden girl Lynn Seymour. In a forthright interview, she explains to Ismene Brown why it must reform:

Taking wing with Ashton. In an inspired evening, Birmingham Royal Ballet honours Frederick Ashton, says Donald Hutera:

The printed Times also has Debra Craine's review of NDT2 - wonder why it's not on line?

And doesn't the Times employ sub-editors any more? Tweedle Dumb!!

Wayward charm. Birmingham Royal Ballet, Birmingham Repertory Theatre. By Judith Mackrell:

Will Lowry be the saviour of Salford? . Long the underprivileged neighbour of Manchester, Salford now has, in the Lowry, an arts centre to rival any in Europe. Paul Gent reflects on the transformation wrought on his home town (Paris Opera Ballet are playing here in May. Ed):

An old Independent piece... 1m step to put the kick back into Britain's unfit dancers. BY Louise Jury, Arts and Media Correspondent:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/UK/Media/2000-04/dance020400.shtml

Global search on the FT site - www.ft.com - brings up a piece by Crisp on the new Manon in St Petersburg. Regrettably I can find no way to give you a URL to the piece direct. I really do tire of the FT site - all the silly technology, having to use IE, browser crashes, having to hit reload after using the back button etc. A nightmare of a site only redeemed by some of the links they throw up. That you cannot give others a simple URL to share the joy of a piece is a major cock-up

Also on the FT site is and Independent piece by John Percival on the ENB Mid-scale tour. Needless to say the Independent web site seems to know nothing of the piece. This is all too silly!

Manon from heaven. The Royal Ballet fields five different Manons - one is truly superb. By DAVID DOUGILL:

High kicks and good karma. Everybody's kung fu fighting in Wheel of Life, the Buddhist monks' answer to Riverdance. It could knock your socks off, says MICHAEL WRIGHT:
