Last night I got to see a short Royal Ballet School performance at the ROH - it was in the Linbury and a collaboration between the RBS and the Yehudi Menuhin School - the latter providing the orchestra for the ballet in the first half of the evening and then going on to give their own concert. It was a free event but not totally full - sadly it had not really registered with us until the last moment.
This is not by way of a review more just to say how marvelous it is to see talented young dancers and musicians growing their skills. If you have never been to any schools performance you might think it rather like an ordinary school play where it's perhaps great if you are a parent but otherwise best to prepare with lots of stiff drinks.... Well none of the dance schools performances I've ever seen have been a let down in any way, shape, or form and last night was no different.
As a precursor to the RBS performance in the main house (19th July matinee) and also their summer season at Holland Park (5-8th July) it's nice to report that things are as you expect from the RBS and a fine crop of dancers are coming through. See them as and when you get the chance - you know it makes sense!
