"Sandwiches at ROH"

I would like to make a passionate defense of sandwiches at Covent Garden. 6.50 might be seen as costly but it does have two rounds. So it is the equivalent of 3.25 per round. Furthermore they have all been made recently. Unlike Marks and Spencer Sandwiches which have been hours ago AND have been put in the fridge for hours. This gives the bread the consistency of cardboard (with taste to match) and the butter becomes hardend. Yuuuccch!!

ROH sandwhichs are delicious and are good value!!!

I should point out that in this world in so many trivial issues dominate the news such as the Budget, Rover closing etc it is time we should focus in on issue that really matter to us (to me at least) such as the catering at the ROH.

Thanks for bringing this subject up Eugene - in my search for pre-performance meals, it had never occurred to me to eat at the ROH itself! Whereabouts are these divine sandwiches served?

I must, however, defend the sandwiches of Marks & Spencer (and other companies) as I think the quality and variety are very good. I've even heard Americans raving about the great British "sandwich in a box".

They can be purchased at main bar at the Vilar Floral Hall. Best bet is the mixed selection which includes roast beef, salmon, egg etc.

I should also point out the ther crusts have be carefully removed.

I am now totally reliant on ROH for my evening meal when I am at the opera/ballet. Would not go anywhere else.

So not only are you forced to buy a pair but you also have to perform work on them to make them digestible?! Or has value been added and the crusts trimmed a smidgeon already?!

What if tickets were suddenly sold in a minimum of pairs? or programmes, or glasses of white wine?

I can just about get my brain around the non-competitive prices for drink and food, but to double up as well seems very poor and out of kilter with a house for the people or indeed encouraging folks to venture in at other times.

I do not mid the double sandwiches as it is my evening meal! There are not too many other places where you can get a evening meal cheaper.

But I would like to see is a Sushi bar at the ROH. A small sushi restaurant opened near our business. I go there 4 times a week. I have simply come to adore sushi. I never had it before but now it is my favorite dish!

I shall start a petition to send to Searcy. I assume I can rely on every one support on this web site!

Marks & Spencer do sushi too! (I don't have shares in them, honest). But no doubt the quality of their sushi isn't very good either?

Also, the champagne is incredibly cheap, less than 10.00 a glass! This means you can go the ROH for an evening with 100 in your pocket and still come out with enough change to walk home. What a bargain!

I think the supermarket sushi is awful. It gives the dish a bad name. My first attempts at eating Sushi was from Tesco. It completely put me off it.

BTW has anyone tried a 3 course dinner at the ROH.
