Tobi Tobias reviews the Paul Taylor Dance Company season at New York City Center in New York Magazine this week.

My review of the Paul Taylor company's Paris season is published in "Hong Kong Standard", after having been held back due to the priority given to the Hong Kong Arts Festival in the past 4 weeks.

On the new Royal Ballet artistic director...

Australian will lead Royal Ballet By Ismene Brown:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk:80/et?ac=000148269364269&rtmo=3wxABrKM&atmo=KKKKKKYM&pg=/et/00/3/14/nbal14.html

Australian to be artistic director at Royal Ballet. By David Lister:
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/UK/This_Britain/2000-03/ballet140300.shtml

Can't find a thing on the Times or FT sites at the moment - this statement is usually the kiss of death for me! Also nothing on the Evening Standard site, though I would expect this to change during the day.

Other stuff...

Cunningly contrived. Jeremy James & Company, The Place Theatre, London. Judith Mackrell:

More on the new RB artistic director...

Good balance required. Ross Stretton, the next Royal Ballet boss, tells Judith Mackrell his plans:

'I think the Royal Ballet needs revitalising - and remotivating'. In his first interview (not actually true: ed) since his surprise appointment yesterday, Royal Ballet's new director Ross Stretton tells Ismene Brown his plans:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk:80/et?ac=000148269364269&rtmo=3wxB8uuM&atmo=99999999&pg=/et/00/3/15/btisme15.html

Surprise choice lands top ballet job. BY DEBRA CRAINE:
http://www.sunday-times.co.uk/news/pages/tim/00/03/15/timnwsnws01002.html

Stretton's leap from dance hinterland to heartland. By VALERIE LAWSON (of The Sydney Morning Herald):
http://www.smh.com.au/news/0003/15/text/national7.html

as I write the Evening Standard site is down - hopefully we will find something there later. Also the FT does not seem to ave anything as yet - it's probably me!

Other ballet/dance stuff... afraid I can't find anything else today.

(**) FT links generally only persist for a few days, before going into an archive which you have to pay to access. So get free while you can. Currently visitors don't have to register to use the FT site, but in the past this was the case - hopefully it will not return.

"Stretton said he would put more emphasis on major European choreographers such as Jiri Kylián and Maurice Béjart and their heirs Nacho Duato and Angelin Preljocaj..."

Straight down the plughole goes the Royal Ballet, I'd say.

Wanted: men with sex appeal. British dance needs more homegrown stars. The new director of the Royal Ballet School, Gailene Stock, tells Ismene Brown her radical solution:

The free links to the Sunday articles in the NY Times do last for a week, but this one, from last Sunday will disappear at around 7am to-morrow London time when it is over-written by the next edition.

As the NYT dance articles are usually lengthy and carefully considered, it might be an idea to include them in the Newspaper Links earlier in the week, Bruce.

Unless they are especially relevant (like an RB season in the USA for example) I prefer to hold back on any NYTimes pieces to in-fill for when the UK papers have nothing. If not used then I occasionally slip one in late in the week - as I have today. I'm sure those that especially value NYTimes pieces have learnt to look directly for them and at the earliest time they are available. Our primary wish remains to have some link, or links, here each day for people to click on... (while not taking forever to find them!).

Anyway for readers keen to look soonest here is the link that brings up the NYT index which includes the dance pieces they have each week:
