I was browsing round the net and found this - I don't think it's been mentioned here before (if it has my apologies)

It's an interview with Gailene Stock

Lets hope it's a persistent link and we can put in the database.

There is an interesting review (or at least I thought so) in the New York times today about a NY City Ballet special performance for children. Apologies again for being so useless with all this "URL" and links stuff, but it can be found in the arts section of the New York times (nytimes.com).

Sorry not to be more helpful - I'll get some training one of these days!

I think that this is the direct link:

http://www.culturekiosque.com/dance/reviews/rhenut.html

This very interesting site (for which many thanks Marie) uses frames, so what is in the Location box at the top of the page is not the URL of the article.

The trick as Bruce, explained to me, is to put the curser on the article and right-click. A menu comes up and you select 'View Info.' in Netscape and something similar in Explorer. The URL for the article is given near the top of the techie info. It's a useful trick.

LAST EDITED ON 15-Feb-00 AT 03:21 PM (GMT)

I just spotted a review by Tobi Tobias in the latest issue of New York Magazine on the Royal Danish Ballet's Bournonville Week.
http://www.newyorkmag.com/page.cfm?page_id=2074

And Tobias also reviewed in the same issue the new Twyla Tharp ballet for New York City Ballet.

Problem getting in to the Times site - will check later. And can't find much else around in the UK. So...

From NY Times Department: These links seem to persist for a about a week and as such they don't get transferred into our database like all the others...

   Bruce

There is also a review of the new NBT production of Great Expectations in the Guardian today. My last two efforts to post links (Guardian and NY Times) have been dismal failures, so I will simply say that it's there today, in the Review Section.

Are there any instructions anywhere for posting the links exactly right - or am I must very, very slow on the uptake?

Regards
Barbara

>Regards Barbara

You are not slow on the uptake - it's just that some of the papers have sites that make it not so easy!

The main tip for Frames based sites - that's ones where there is a fixed part of the page (usually a menu) and a changing part for the reviews or whatever - was given by Stuart earlier in the thread. Frames based sites include The Times, Sunday Times and Evening Standard.

The other occasional problem is that Guardian/Observer URLs include commas (the only site I know that does) that confuse our Postings page software so that such URL's do not fully get converted to a hot link. By convention we strip off the Http:// stuff from these URL's... which means they don't get converted to hot links... and so we add the words about copying and pasting such them

The final thing is to use preview (posting) and see if the hot link works! if not than you need to try again. But nobody should devote lots of time to this and its better to have a text posting, saying something is there, if you can't seem to crack the URL of a page.

First I want to thank everybody for putting up extra links and reviews information - splendid stuff!

The FT is using much high technology on its site these days and its not clear to me that we will be able to come up with a simple URL to pick up a specific review - shame. But I need to play more yet.

Better news - the Guardian I think had some problems with its search database, but these now seem fixed....

Dickens the symbolist. Great Expectations/Northern Ballet Theatre, Grand Theatre, Leeds. By Judith Mackrell:
www.newsunlimited.co.uk/reviews/story/0,3604,137145,00.html

Body talk. Tango shouldn't even exist in the 21st century, with its submissive women meekly following dominant males. So why did Judith Mackrell get such a thrill from her afternoon at the tea dance?

House proud. Born in Brooklyn, Joseph Volpe started at the New York Met as a trainee carpenter. Now he runs the show, and the snobs have been sent packing. He tells Stephen Moss about his remarkable rise, his demonic reputation and his fears that Covent Garden will never live up to its promise of opera for all:

A Dickens of a time. It's frantic and rousing in places, but the NBT's Great Expectations lacks an original twist, says DAVID DOUGILL:
