"ENB's New Ballet"

According to the Daily Telegraph, Derek Deane is going to stage "Wuthering Heights" with music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, who scored Miss Saigon. Tamara Rojo will be appointed to dance the role of Catherine. Deane "did consider Sir Cliff Richard for the role (Heathcliff)as he did it fabulously."

When is this going to take place? Spring 2001 at the earliest, I suppose, since ENB is going to do Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Albert Hall this summer, and will tour with Swan Lake this winter.

Kevin, I'm afraid no details were given in the paper. Even Tamara didn't seem to know that. But this is what Deane says. "I have had dreams of doing this for a long time but I never had a Catherine. Now I have found one. She doesn't know yet, but I am going to ask Tamara Rojo. I have seen nothing like her since Lynn Seymour and I know she will be perfect."

ENB are supposed to be doing Giselle and a triple bill next spring, so I'd assume it'd be the autumn of next year at the latest. What I'm wondering, though, is who out of ENB's current shortage of male principals would be cast as Heathcliff? Not sure any of them strike me as obvious candidates.

ENB seems to be doing the classics in rotation - Sleeping Beauty this summer, Swan Lake this autumn, Giselle next spring.

Of course - it now seems obvious that Wuthering Hights is perfect for ballet.

You can make some of the most passionate pdd for Cathy and Heathcliff!

I cannot wait to see it!!!
