This is not too strange. After all, Helpmann did it, Christopher Gable made the transition quite successfully, and (very sweetly)Irek recently had a go. But I seem to recall, in an interview some time back, mostly to do with his leaving the Royal, that Adam said that future plans were for more choreography, wanting to act and also train to be a conductor. Well, there have been some modest successes at the choreography, now a shot at acting, so get ready to hang up your baton, Andrea Quinn.....! Anybody know when Madame Bovary is to be shown?

Has anyone noticed the BBC's preview trails for Madame Bovary? Unless I'm mistaken her dancing partner is Adam (with a moustache). Is this the extent of his role or does he actually do any acting in it?

And if the moustache wins, will Adam Cooper be nominated as Best Supporting Actor?

Yes, I noticed him too (and I'm not a particular Adam fan or connoisseur so I'm quite proud that I recognised him from that tiny snippet of film - if you remember those short films about the ROH just before the reopening, I spent hours freeze-framing the video to try and identify the dancers and failed!) - and I thought that the role didn't look as though it was stretching him much....

Yawn!! Yes, it is him and I just wish he'd ditch the moustache. Whether he gets to speak or not (I mean this is supposed to be the beginning of an acting career) we'll just have to wait and see/hear next week http://www.danze.co.uk/dcforum/Images/happy.gif.

As has been discussed a great deal on the "non-serious" chat page:
1) No, Adam doesn't speak, apparently. He said that he was only around for one day's filming.
2) Madame Bovary is to be shown on BBC2 on the 10th & 11th April.
3) Yes, the moustache is a little silly, but in the style of the period.
4) Personally, I'd rather watch Adam acting (as he did superbly every time he danced The Swan) than Greg Wise - at least I get the feeling that Adam is a lot less concerned with his personal appearance, and it's effect on any ladies around him, (and incidentally I HAVE met them both).

Interesting - since he's named in the Radio Times, I rather assumed he'd got a speaking role, as I don't think you usually credit actors unless they speak.

I read somewhere he's got a dancing role. Oh, I noticed in a bookshop today that he is on the back cover of the paperback especially published for the BBC drama.

Just watched episode 1 of Madame Bovary, and M. Cooper did speak - just one line! The lad himself had obviously forgotten about it, but it sort of explains the Radio Times credit. I wasn't sure if the old rule still worked, as we have different ones in radio (with us it used to be something like a minimum of six lines per character for a credit), but I'm not sure that still holds true nowadays with the more limited amount of space for broadcasting details than there used to be in the past. Anyway, I quite enjoyed the Flaubert, but I would have preferred to see someone like Rufus Sewell instead of Greg Wise - now there is a performer with the "phwoargh" factor on a par with the likes of Adam.

Agree with you about Rufus Sewell!

Seriously, what I intended to say was that in case anyone missed the programme it's being repeated as an omnibus edition next week - I suspect Saturday or Sunday, but don't know for certain.

Alison: It's repeated on Sunday in one continuous episode, if we can all stand it.

Anneliese: I agree that Greg is a pretty face, but I didn't particularly enjoy working with him, so perhaps that coloured my opinion a little. Still, each to their own tastes, as it would be awful if we all liked the same thing.

Lovely to see a real dancer in a period drama ball! A really good little scene! Perhaps they could start hiring him for breeches productions - I'll never forget how awfully pigeon-toed Richard Chamberlain looked beside Christopher Gable in "The slipper and the rose"! Have to disagree with you all about Greg Wise, though (I think he's moderately gorgeous), but also have to admit that I was surfing through most of the episode because I find the book just so depressing. A fine book, but I really can't bear the inevitability of it all.

Well Madame Bovary's morals may have been reprehensible for the time, but she got one thing right - dancing with the Vicomte (aka Adam Cooper)was the most perfect moment she had!
