Dancers of the Kirov Ballet (Asylmuratova, Lopatkina, Makhalina, Zelensky and others) are giving six performances (two programs) in Athens. Unfortunately, I cannot go. But I watched an interview with Zelensky yesterday and he said that two weeks ago Asylmuratova was appointed director of the Vaganova school. There was also an excerpt of him and Altinay dancing Sheherazade. She was incredibly good. I don't know what this appointment means for her career, but I think that it is great news for the russian tradition of dancing.
Talking of the Kirov, in a bit of an aside, I'm told that tickets for the ROH season are from about £6-£70 pounds, and I think matinees were cheaper, so presumably they're being priced at around standard Royal Ballet prices. Either way, it's good news compared with prices at the Coliseum in recent years. I'll post full details when I actually receive them!
Hello! I had heard a lot about Igor Zelensky, but have seen him dance only once (here in US we are not as fortunate as you are). I was wondering what he was saying in his interview. I had read reviews of him and Bussell from ROB, but he is not around any longer. So I was just curious.Thanks.
