"Lynn Seymour tapes/books"

Hello. I'm looking for any video tapes or books about Lynn Seymour. My daughter is organising a large project for school and has chosen Miss Seymour as her subject. Here in the US it's difficult to get much information on her. Can anyone help me? (The video tapes must be in VHS format.) Thank you.

Typing the words "Lynn Seymour" and video into a search engine yields quite a few results - then it's just a question of getting hold of the material. Shouldn't your daughter be doing this...?

There are videos of Lynn in "Giselle" & "Sleeping Beauty Act III" (in the film I AM A DANCER) available from good video shops. Lynn published her autobiography about 10 years ago, which she should be able to order from a good library. There are also loads of dance films that you can watch at the British Film Institute in London.

In what city/state do you live? Here in New York there is an excellent performing arts library. There may be one in your city or at a local university. You don't say how old your daughter is - how sophisticated does this project need to be?? Exactly what kind of information are you looking for? I would definitely start by getting a copy of Seymour's autobiography, which was published in the UK by Granada Publishing in 1984. Their address is: 8 Grafton St., London W1X 3LA. The exact title is: Lynn, The Autobiography of Lynn Seymour - with Paul Gardner. You could try Amazon.com for a copy. Then via the internet you might find people who have copies of the videotapes mentioned in another posting. Good luck.

There is also a wonderful book of photographs of Lynn Seymour (taken I think by Anthony Crickmay)with a fairly long foreward by Clement Crisp. Sorry I can't tell you any more because I am currently renting out my flat and the book is in there. However, the photos are really beautiful and really give a good idea of the kind of dancer she was.

Regards
Barbara

January 2000 Dancing Times has an article by Lynn Seymour herself on ballet education in which she talks about her early training while reflecting on the education and training of today's dancers. It makes fascinating and thought- provoking reading.
