"Rehearsal of Coppelia"
| |
Today my mum took me to see a rehearsal of Coppelia at Sadler's Wells. We went up to Manchester to see it but little did we know it was playing just down the road!! It was really good to see the dancers rehearse. They chatted at the back while the Principal was dancing, lighting men came on the stage, they were sowing there ballet shoes and massaging each others feet because they'd just sprained an ankle! Chang was amazing at his jumps and leaps and so was the girl playing Swanilda. I recommend Kevin Richmond as Dr.Coppelius...he's facial expressions are the highlight of how he plays his character. It was dancing behind the curtain without the curtain! It was really good so if you're free you should see it because it's such a sweet production! |

Julia - welcome to ballet.co.uk postings! Thanks for telling us about the Coppelia rehearsal - I really wanted to go and see it at SW but couldn't get a free evening because my daughter was acting & dancing in 'Deliverance' (a new play based loosely on the 'Prince of Egypt' story) - so I was really watching a Coppelia of my own!!!!I really enjoy seeing the 'open' rehearsals for all the reasons you have given. I think that Kevin Richmond is a really expressive actor/dancer, too. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about it. Graham |
