The problem here is the overwhelming choice of goodies - I am tempted by the Automatic Labrador Groomer, but I haven't got a labrador, so it will have to be the musical Aga cover - only I haven't got an Aga either. So it will just have to be the Bussell Guide to Bollinger - tasteful but affordable.

I'm sure the "Borrow A Dancer"-scheme will be a great hit
I wonder if Bruce will take responsability for merchandise offered through his website ?

We are just handling the Forum aspects here - not sure how the order fulfillment actually happens. It is though a site that needs developing on that's for sure.

Some have complained that there are not enough details on the merchandise - which would certainly be a criticism of my own - but I've discovered that leaving you mouse over some of the gifts seems to give a few more details. For myself I'm irresistibly drawn to the Searcy's book - but I'm feeling frugal so will start saving my RB Pointes I suppose.

How on earth could you think such a thing? RB need all the money they can get and we should all be supporting initiatives like this to the hilt I think.

Sugar Plum Fairy: I don't know but I've been trying to get through to the ROH all morning to enquire about borrowing Sylvie for an evening and the lines are totally busy so I guess I'm not the only one.

I think they've missed a trick by not including Arbroath Smokies in the offers. I was up there a couple of weeks ago for my spring consignment.

Bruce, please do pass on our congratulations to the RB website team for coming up which such an appropriate design for the new gifts site! The innovative and, dare I say it, defiant use of the colour pink is particularly noteworthy.

Like Jim, I have been unable to get through on the 'Borrow a Dancer' line; I had been thinking that it would be nice to have that Ivan Putrov for a few days, as he looks to be quite a strong lad and might be able to help me with relaying the patio for the summer.

Jim, I'm so sorry to hear that the dancer-borrowing facility appears to be engaged. I've just seen this and thought it would be an absolute godsend - I've got a friend with a 40th birthday on April 3rd and I've been wracking my brains as to what to give her that's really special. I'm sure borrowing a dancer for a day (a nice, hunky young male, perhaps?) would have been a great idea . Never mind, I'm sure I could get her the silver tea strainer or something - after all, it's all for a good cause. Hope they can deliver within 48 hours ...

Personally I think they've missed at least one part of a good fundraising possibility by not including a session or two with a good psychic who could conjure the spirit of Dame Ninette! (and some others...)

Well done Royal Ballet(tm) Merchandising Department -Bravo!
My application form for your credit card is in the post!

For those sceptics, I can heartily recommend 'Searcy's Book of Amazing Sandwiches'. I received a signed copy for Christmas and its Makarova low-fat turkey on ciabatta with Stretton pickle & Macmillan relish is just to die for.... (yum!)

On the subject of dying, your funeral service looks great too!

No, itís perfectly genuine, honest, Sim! Iíve just managed to get through on the ĎBorrow a Dancerí line Ė unfortunately Putrov has already gone (a plumbing job in Harrow, apparently), but Iíve been offered Kobborg instead. Iím thinking about it.

Ann, I think you're really barking up the wrong tree with those two - they're not used to lifting anything heavier than Alina. For patios, I think Carlos Acosta would be your best bet, or possibly Irek. Either of them would be well able to tell Charlie Dimmock where to put the cement. But I suspect Guest Artists would command a higher fee.

Thanks Ann. There must be something wrong with my computer....whenever I click onto any of them it just brings me straight back here!

If you don't want Kobborg you can always pass him on to me...I'm sure I can think of something for him to do!!!!

But I still can't help feeling cynical about all this....

Some years ago at a Dancers Benevolent Society Ball a young man's services were auctioned. All the ladies dropped out as the bids went up and in the end only men were bidding. In that particular case the young man looked most relieved!

In response to message #0

Well it was of course an April Fool - though some of it is all too plausible!

I have added a note to the RoyalBalletGifts.com page so its clear what it is.

Some of you may have missed the message "For a description of any item just let your mouse hover over it" - So rather then click on an item (and whiz here) you just leave your mouse over an item and you get a few words about it. For "Searcy's Book of Amazing Sandwiches" the elaborating text is 'Recreate the taste of the Floral Hall at home with Searcy's comprehensive instructions on sandwich making. Now with free Kettle Chip guide.' Sadly they are not all that good!

Thanks to everybody for their suggestions - it looks like there is money in a 'Borrow a Dancer' scheme!

Finally a note for next year... if you think you have spotted an April fool, best to go along with it or ask the following day - talking about it on the thread on the day may give the game away.

Tally ho

Bruce - the reason your April Fools are so good is that they ARE so plausible. This year's are so likely that I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them taken up at Covent Garden.(Mind you charge them for your ideas.) Thanks for giving us all a really good laugh.

I emailed the link to a friend in a mail with the title "Today's the day" and she emailed back saying "Unspeakably naff". I suggested she looked at her calendar and still it didn't twig - her response said "Why? What's happening? What IS the date?" so you can fool most of the ppl most of the time...
