Dame Ninette has even more strings to her bow than some of us realise. At the Martha Graham Study Day we heard that when Robin Howard was thinking of setting up the UKs first contemporary dance school in the 1960s, he had a meeting with Rambert and de Valois to ask then what they thought. They gave a resounding, 'Yes', which gave Howard the encouragement to go ahead. A step which resulted in The Place and the rich variety of contemporary dance companies, like Sue Davies and Richard Alston, that we can enjoy today.

So, even in areas outside her main sphere of activity, she has had a strong influence.

I forgot! What an amazing lady. Can someone tell me how and where she is now?

Regrettably she is almost blind and quite deaf although she is still mentally strong. I think she is confined to her home.

It is typical of Madames larger then life personality that she would live to a fantastically old age!

I wish her well - touch wood but I think she will still be around for quite some time!

Happy birthday!

How sad that she can no longer see to watch ballet or hear the music. No doubt she'll be around for as long as she wishes - she certainly has the willpower to do so! I think her generation had "true grit." Martha Graham was another one, (although she didn't make it to 100).
