"Why are the trusts who hold the ballets so cranky re recording on tv or film?"

I have been reading the postings re televising, Onegin on National tv, do the powers that be, not understand that for many television is the only means of seeing dance, many people for many reasons cannot attend a theatre , be this due to health or finacial matters, also there are many who live too far from a town which has a theatre.
Artistic directors are known for saying lets bring dance to a wider audience, to do this we need to use tv.
Many have their first taste of ballet seeing a program on television, many follow this up with a visit to a performance when a touring company is in town, these are the people who keep the smaller companies alive.
So I ask, are the trusts blind to the fact that to record dance is to keep the art alive
The Balanchine Cranko and Robbins trusts to name a few are known for their arrogance towards the media, there narrow view is the our loss

The copyright laws on dance and dance notation are odd. Someone tried to stop me from printing the instructions for a traditional dance that he had written down. He who writes it down sometimes claims copyright. Ballet is even more complicated as lots of old boy friends are often involved.
