"Youry Vamos Nutcracker Query"
Breda Pretnar recently raised the following query...

"During my visit to Dance Screen in 1992 I cam accross The Nutcracker, choreography by Youry Vamos perfomred by Bonner Ballet; producers Sony Classical with comment: "To give the well-known story more depth, chreographer Youry Vamos includes a new character: Scroogle from "A Christmas Tale " by C. Dickens. So far evrerything is understandable, but recently at teh press confenece for the new season in Ljubljana Opera Ballet (Slovenia) tehy announced a Nutcracker by Vamos, story by C. Dickens.

I would be very much obliged if you can help me with the history about Vamos choreography concerning this ballet, I presume it was staged for Ballet of Bon Opera in 1988 (in late eghties ?).

Thanking you in advance for your help."

over to you...

Basler Ballett danced Youri Vamos Nutcracker when he was director there and I guess he took it to Dusseldorf too. It is a mixture of Dickens Christmas Carol with Scooge and the ghosts and the Nutcracker story and is danced to the usual score. I might be able given time to dig out some information but it will probably be in German.
