""The Confession"tour by Tetsuya Kuamakawa(2) "

   act2 "Side-Show"

Act2 was produced as the memorial pieces for Tetsuya Kuamakawa. This time those were performed by his great friends
and company members.

"Side-Show"
I'd been interesterd in this piece and wanted to see,I could
really enjoy from this piece danced by a couple of dancers.
Stuart Cassidy as a plenty muscular man of a circus, and Megumi
Yoshida or Yukako Sakakibara as a charming and comical girl.
The costume design and make-up were very funny and characteristic.
On the music of Stravinsky, they danced with a little "gap"of movements as if their knees were out of point, but that was the point of this piece!
Cassidy's solo perfomance was great, very excellet and very
shaply jumping on the stage and moved to the next position
instantly!!
I admired ecpecially his knees were trainned perfect and moved
very soft, sharp and stopped as free as possible, exactly
fantastic!!

Mr.Kumakawa had danced this piece in his RB, with Miyako
Yoshida,he may be not so muscular dancer but Sir Anthony Dowell
and the audiences required his dance on this piece,I heard,
I've not seen this piece by Mr.Kumakawa but could imagine his
brilliant sharp jumping tequniues were admired and his music
sence was excellent, too. If possible I'd like to see by
Tetsuya & Miyako again...is that a dream ?

"Kingdom of the Shades from "La Bayadere"

This piece is typical piece as one of the classical
ballet. Mr.Kumakawa these days offen has talked how important
the classical ballet, and how brilliant and proud of playing the
classical ballet, and to need inform the correct style of classical ballet. Recently on the many medias in Japan, often
has been heard his comments something like those.

Yoshio Homura is a direct line dancer of Homura Tomoi
Ballet, studied abrord in Waganowa Ballet Accademy and in Japan
many ballet audiences knows his noble dance. This time, very
unfortunately,the member of K-Ballet Matthew Dibble couldn't
dance by an injurey,so by the place of Matthew Mr.Homura danced
through the tour,except 23rd,24th March(=Jyu Horiuchi,He is
a young brother of Gen Horiuchi).Yoshio performed his role Solore(=I don't know how to spell the name) very politely for the audience and his partner, realized why he stood on the stage and this scene what feeling expression were required. His dance was fulled with the sadness of Nikiya, the regret of himself and the true love for Nikiya. He had said on DANCE MAGAZINE in Japan,August 2001,
one day he'd like to try to this role.Solore was a soldier and
needed somehing "man"like,Yoshio isn't so wild dancer but this
time he tried to challenge for another side of as a ballet
dancer.

Kayo Nagata is the member of K-Ballet female dancers and
she had studied abroad by Bolishoi Ballet school, and now continue to lesson and sometimes teach in Wakui Ballet.
She is young and very sensible, exquisite and beautifull ballerina, and perhaps many people realized her excellet techuniques and very delicate, polite expression of the feelings as a role. This time ... Nikia, she has very faint life but has very warming heart, true love for Solore. I have been admired especially by her movements of arms!! not only legs and toes, her arms were so fluently and she wasn't behind of the music, and the lines really beautifull not exaggerration but,you know, very natural. I think, her talents will be more and more blooming!!

And three women also performed well.Yukako Sakakibara(Mayumi
Kondo),Mikako Tokui(Maya Sato), Yuko Suzuki,they danced each
part of the ballet as solo dance fluently on the music.
And especially the night three dancers completely same
stop-motion on the arabescque, that were very beautifull and
somthing like a star of thiers lives brilliantly expressed in the darkness and silence.

Yoshio and Kayo's partnerships were more and more well, through
the tour on the stage!! Jyu Horiuchi let us show a very sharp
jumping and turning lively. He's also excellent!! And if
possible,I believe next time, of cource,we are really looking
forwards to see Matthew's dance!!!

"Wolfgang"
This is the first work choreographed by Mr.Kumakawa.He had
said somethig like this, one day I'd like to try to choreograpy, and after doing that it would be known by myself and
audiences that the field of choreograpy suitable for me or
not,etc.

"Wolfgang" is, of cource, the Great Artist of Music,Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart.
This piece is made up of a short story, and audiences as if
saw a drama. Mr.Kumakawa imspired a little by the
movie "Amadeus",came to an idea of the stage.
There is a rumour of the death of Mozart, the artist Salieri
he also a musician, but he wasn't a geanious like a Mozart,
so he had seen the scores of Mozart, maybe want to the talent,
and the way of getting the score...to kill the Mozart by a
poison.

This is terrible story but the stage isn't so terrible but funny.
Mr.Kumakawa was getting touch his very nice firend Simon Rice, whose pieces had already been performed by K-Ballet Members
and Japanese fans,of cource had known his name, but who could
imagime,Simon himself join to one of the K-Ballet tour!!
It was very very fantastic news when we were heard, and more
and more looking forward to see the stage, and Simon's performance, too.

The expectation wasn't betrayed, and I could really enjoy
the story and the choreography ifself,a little bit terrible
story but "funny" taste.

Simon played as Morzart, yes exactly Morzart!! He was very
charming and a lot of audiences were truely charmed with chukle
and laugh by his funny motions and very chageable figure
expressions and his existance itself was very important key of
the stage.

Mr.Kumakawa said on the pamphlet,he,Simon Rice,is like a
secret weapon for me and the happiness of his joinnig this
tour is very appreciate for me, so it's not mind if this piece
isn't accepted by the audience,to make this piece with my best
friends and share the time with a joy, that was really happy for
me,in Japanese.

Stuart Cassidy is also a great acter,I was amazed to see,
not only a ballet dancer,he's also great an artist!!
He expressed completely the different character of
"Side-Show".
He played as Salieri, also yes, exactly Saliari!!
His steps were so lightly and did proued himself as if
he hadn't been realized his true talent, the limitted only
common tanlent. He had his score showen by Mozart,
but...Mozart is nonchalant,and laugh it!!...shut his mouth
instantly.
Looked the score of Mozart,on the floor it was threw
away,Salieri was very shockked and sorrowed his own
talent. But he put the one of papers in his chest pocket
as if nothing happnned.

And he made an idea he got the score and Mozart's
talents,with a maid,he brought her a poison,and cheers!!
He drank the glasses up with Mozart,then...Mozart was
gaspping, gaspping, breathed hard to live, and down the floor.
Salieri and his maid rapidly gathered the scores and the
music in the room, and took up even the one in the Mozart's
hand, with lightly steps and embraced them tight,
they skipped out of the room.

I think Mr.Kuamakawa's sence of coreography is very
interesting. The choreography itself, the stage set and
the story were very suitable for the music of Mozart!!
Just on the music, the choreograpy and the story were very
easy to understand and I imagined many audiences could fun
to see, maybe they had thier own tastes, but I thought the
atmosphere of the hall they enjoyed.

Of cource,if there might not be Simon and Stuart,
and Mis Ishikawa, the stage wouldn't be born. So,I'd like to
admire the performance by three persons,I could really
enjoyed!! Then I'd like to expect many possibilities of
Mr.Kumakawa's talents as an artist, especially,of cource,
a ballet dancer!!

(I'll continue to act3 please wait,if it take a time)

Don't worry about any errors Satoko, its always interesting to hear the news about such a familiar group of dancers and indeed to receive news of the vibrant Japanese dance scene in general.
