""Making it""
"Making it" another of my 'video-surprises'
A documentary on one of the "grant-competitions" in UK, with a very young Vanessa Palmer. Just turned 17 and first year at RB Upperschool.
After being watching recently, a lot of young dancers from very close...it was striking to notice the enormous difference in technique-ability and strenght of these 16-17 years old.
Although we saw a nice Bournonville-variation from "Napoli" by Vanessa...
(exercised in her mother's kitchen )
I'm convinced that nowadays one can't win a place at one of the top three of vocational schools in that stage of training !
A clear statement that competition has became very though and that -in comparison to the mentioned period- being a natural mover with great musicality, budding artistry...but with stil a lot of technique-work to go for, one can forget about a place !
Maybe this is the mistake one is making today...the gap between vocational training and artistic directors is too big ?
