"Enrico Cecchetti"

I would need the assistance of a person with great familiarity with the Cecchetti method, as I have a number of questions in view of an article on teaching methods. I would also need to consult still photography and/or film of Cecchetti classes.

Is there anyone out there who can help ?

Please reply on this forum, or to katharine.kanter@free.fr

Thank you

LAST EDITED ON 03-04-02 AT 04:04 PM (GMT)

Katharine, concerning the film of Cecchetti classes, I suggest to
contact :
The Cecchetti Society
Imperial House
22-26 Paul Street
London
EC2A 4QE
Tel: 01923 243 959

Unfortunately, as for the teacher I told you, they don't seem to have an Internet address

I can add that there exist 4 videos(PAL) on Cecchetti-classes :
Intermediate/Grades 1 to 4/Grades 5&6/Advanced 1.
They are expensive : 34£50/each and available through :
http://www.istd.org

   Dear Katherine,

The ISTD Cecchetti videos are of the children’s work most of it being made up by teachers and are not Enrico Cecchetti’s exercises though they aim to follow his principles. Most of his class exercises are published in The Manual which is for sale from ISTD but fairly unreadable unless you already are familiar with the work! - The adage dedicated to his cat is rather lovely. - Other exercises have been passed down from his pupils, my teacher was taught by Enrico Cecchetti. Much of the Cecchetti method is also recorded in both Laban & Benesh notation.

The ISTD do have a web site www.istd.org

The most complete dictionary of Cecchetti terms is by Rhonda Ryman published in 1998 by Dance Collection Press in Canada.

A book of photos of Cecchetti teaching Pavlova etc was also published in Canada a few years ago

His son (he had several) Grazioso also developed his fathers teaching I worked with the editor of the English version of his 2 volume book published in 1997 by Gremese.

Cecchetti is not only a method of teaching but also a style of ballet, which also has similarities with the Bournonville technique. You can trace a direct line back from Enrico Cecchetti to Beauchamp the first Maitre at the French Académie in 1661.

Best of luck with your article do let me know when it is published.

   Dear Gavin,

I gather from what you explain above, that the advanced enchainements and port de bras are not available on film. I did hear of an American film made on the subject by a lady who teaches somewhere in the Mid West, but my enquiries have not been answered.

Would it be possible for you to contact me by e-mail, as I would like to ask you some questions concerning Cecchetti technique ?

Thank you very much.
