"Speaking of videos..."

LAST EDITED ON 17-02-02 AT 08:57 PM (GMT)

I have a lot of videos but always looking to expand and was wondering what you all thought about POB. I have La Bayadere but was considering others.

Which POB ballet videos are your favorites and which would you recommend?

Lara, 'Paris Dances Diaghilev' is a must. 'Petroushka', 'Spectre de la Rose', 'L'Apres-midi d'un Faune and 'Les Noces' are the ballets danced, and they feature such incomparable French dancers as Elisabeth Platel (a particular favourite of mine), Kader Belarbi (another favourite, I fell in love with him), Manuel Legris, Marie-Claude Pietragalla, Monique Loudieres etc. It is a treasure I go back to many times.

POB La Bayadere, Romea and Juliet and Sleeping Beauty are brilliant danced. but the video are appalling directled so that they are unwatchable on TV. There far too many panned out shots so the soloist becomes invisible on the stage!! It is so annoying and a complete waste.

Cinderella, Nutcracker were shot in a studio and hence these problems are largely overcome!

Only seen the Bayadere on French TV. Agree that it is badly filmed and badly lit. Think the production overpraised - if you don't like Bayadere this won't make you change your mind.
