BRB's offices are located behind the Hippodrome Theatre with the entrance in Thorp Street. It is about a 5 minute walk from New Street Station and you should follow the clearly marked signs directing with to the theatre or to the Arcadian Centre which is part of the complex.

New Street station is about 20 minutes from Birmingham International Airport by train.

The BRB studios are accessed via the stage door off Thorpe Street. AFAIK you are only allowed in if you are part of the company or if you are on one of the friends events, such as watching a class or participating in the odd classes. There was one last Tuesday, were we attempted to learn the market scene from R&J. This was taught by Grace Maudell. Boy was it tough!! Top fun though! As you would expect, the studios are very swish, with a polished wooden sprung floor, mirrors on two sides, full length barres on three. At one end is a raised platform with the grand piano on it. Madam glares down from one wall.

The DanceXchange studios are also entered off Thorpe Street. These are brand spanking new, with grey marley or similar floors, mirrors on one wall and they still have the squeaky porta-bars. The ballet classes there are still excellent and they still feature the all important live music. They also run other classes like jazz, salsa, tap, etc. but I can't comment on those.

It sounds wonderful. I am awaiting to hear if I have got an audition for the Senior Summer School this year and am desperate to be given the chance. Have you been at any summer schools at BRB and if so, what is the standard like and the teaching faculty etc............... I would love to hear any details anyone may have. Thank you !!

I'm fascinated that this class was taught by Grace Maduell. Is she still with BRB then? I saw her dance the lead girl (Maggie, is it?) in Hobson's Choice in Liverpool a while ago, and was sitting with her delightful parents from New Orleans in the audience, so I feel a personal interest. Somehow I thought she had left.

Grace is still with the company, but not as a dancer. She's works as a Education Projects Officer, but am unclear how long she's been doing this. I think she was one of the dancers that participated in the part-time course at the University of Birmingham specifically designed for the BRB dancers. I always liked her seems a shame to have lost her from the stage.
