...some ideas and loose thoughts popping up in my mind : (simply skip if these have been covered already !) -'Which is your favourite/best ballet-theatre' ? (home-country and abroad) -'What is important for a theatre : the sightlines, the seating-space, the bar ( ), acoustics, the climatisation, , access by public transport, the programme..... -'What makes you go every and every time again to the same ballet ?' -'What made you 'hooked' to ballet : the company, one(or more) favourite stories, a particular dancer, the score, a certain choreography, all previous reasons together ..... -Recently I had a discussion with my daughter concerning..the different tutu's...! I was amazed she preferred the 'plateau'-one to the romantic tutu ! So maybe a poll about dance-wear/costumes ? -'Is dance-history important to you ?..do you read about dance-history... would you consider to go and see a ballet with rather bad critics, just because it is an important one from the point of history .....ever visited a dance-related exhibition ?' -'Are reviews by critics important in your decision to go and see a ballet ? or....are the comments of regular-visitors and postings on this site more important in your decision-making ? -'Apart from going to the ballet and reading Ballet.co..., do you read/buy printed magazines, do you buy the music, video/DVD, do you read books on ballet, do you buy dance-related merchandise goodies, do you collect ballet-memorabilia ?....' -'Do you prefer a company with the well-known hierarchic system for her dancers or a company where the choreographer is the 'principal' ?' |

Splendid list - thank you! There are some real goodies for the future here, though some of them might be a little hard to 'fit' into our very limited format. I'd like to do the 'What makes you go time and time again to the same piece?' (changed the words a little). But we need to generate a list of up to 10 reasons for people to vote on. So readers; your thoughts for the list - and don't forget they can only be one or two words in length! We have a week to work on this, in the meantime I'm going with a poll based on something that came up in the Clement Crisp interview - but I'll write about that on another thread. |

I've been trying to boil the suggestions down into categories that are as generic as possible. Just to remind you, the poll question is 'What makes you go time and time again to the same piece? Here is the provisional list of choices: Different interpretations Seeking perfection Love of a dancer Seeing subtleties little dance choice other happy to consider one or two more additions or changing words if it makes things clearer - but we have little space remember. ... and thanks for your help! |

LAST EDITED ON 27-01-02 AT 01:10 PM (GMT) I'm being pedantic but what about changing 'love of a dancer' to 'dancers' or adding on 'love of a cast'. In response to Vivane's request that I post something on the subject, I saw Onegin's first cast all three times because that cast was so extraordinary all round and so perfectly balanced. Given that Cooper and Stiefel are guest artists, and all 4 are favourites I never thought the stars would line up for me like this again, so I saw them every opportunity I could. Otherwise I think the list is great - I can't think of anything else to add to it! And how about this as an idea for a future ballet.co poll - the death of new narrative/story ballets. Looking at Stephen Baynes' profile in the Independent it makes me sad that he thinks such ballets can't be made or aren't as accepted anymore. And it might provoke some interesting discussion as to why some of the best choreographers go down the contemporary or abstract ballet route. |

I'll start a new Mini-poll thread around these issues after I have got the next poll off and running. Thank you |
