"Deborah Bull in Rite of Spring?"

While in the ROH box office the other day, I noticed that Bull's recent performance in Rite of Spring was being shown along with the Firebird and Les Noces which were videoed last year. Does anyone know if Rite will also be shown on the BBC along with the other 2 later this month, thus making up a Stravinsky triple bill?

Alison, I think so. At the end of the Bull's interview in the Mail on Sunday dated 6th January, it is stated that Deborah Bull's "Stravinsky Staged" and "Masterworks:Stravinsky's the Rite of Spring" will be screened on BBC2 on January 26. I din't notice this until you mentioned the above. Is this "Rite" the one she danced in Italy ?

YEs, I assume so. Anyway, Brendan's now confirmed it above (or below, now).

The version in question is performed by the Richard Alston Dance Company. See http://www.danze.co.uk/dcforum/news/1143.html#2 for further details.

Just to clarify: the interval feature in Stravinsky Staged has short excerpts from Deborah Bull's performance as The Chosen One in the Millicent Hodson reconstruction of The Rite of Spring. There is also an interview with Millicent Hodson (it's worth re-reading Deborah Bull's thoughts on the reconstruction on her website).

Stravinsky Staged is an outstanding piece of television, and the undoubted highlight is Les Noces, which survives wonderfully intact the translation from stage to television. I'll do a more detailed posting on the other thread over the coming days.
