   During Christmas-time I received email from Mr.J.Parczen concerning the next Rudolf Nureyev Competition.
Sorry I have overlooked this email, entries are still possible until 30 January 2002.

COMPETITION 2002
1.The 5th INTERNATIONAL RUDOLF NUREYEV BALLET COMPETITION (RNBC) BUDAPEST is organized by the EuroDance Foundation - in cooperation with the Hungarian State Opera, the Ministry of Culture and the Lord Mayor of Budapest, under the auspices of the International Dance Council, UNESCO - in Budapest March 11-16, 2002.
2.The Competition will be held every second year in honour of RUDOLF NUREYEV, one of the greatest ballet dancers of the 20th century, in order to promote the artistic development of the young dancers of today and tomorrow by challenging them to perform passages selected from classical productions (including Nureyev’s versions).
3.The three-round Competition will be judged by a jury of international experts.

RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
ELIGIBILITY
4.The Competition is open to all professional female and male dancers of all nationalities in categories solo or pas de deux (pdd). The recommended age-limit is between 16 and 26 years old (no separated junior end senior categories), but all applications will be considered.
5.Applications (see form enclosed) should be mailed before January 30, 2002 and should consist of the following documents:
applications form duly filled in,
curriculum vitae (in English)
two photos: one portrait, one full figure in stage costume in dance posture (for females must be on pointe)
letter of recommendation and videos are welcomed.
6.Dancers accepted to the Competition will be notified in due time for their visa-application (if necessary).
7.The participation fee - USD 50 non-refundable - is to be paid in cash on registration.
8.Participants should provide their own insurance policies covering health, accident and all other material and immaterial damages for the duration of their stay.
9.The Management provides:
per diem of HUF 2.000 (in Hungarian currency) to all competing candidates (and non-competing partners) plus accommodation during all three Rounds until their elimination
daily class is provided for all participants.
10.The Management does not provide travel expenses to and from Budapest.

REPERTORY
11.In the FIRST ROUND one pdd or two different variations from among the following classical choreographies:
La Bayadere, Le Corsaire, Don Quixote, Giselle, Grand pas Classique (Gsovsky), The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, La Sylphide (Bournonville or Lacotte version), The Flames of Paris (pdd), Coppelia, Esmeralda, Paquita, La Fille mal Gardée (Petipa or Ashton or Lazzini or Spoerli version), Flower Festival of Genzano pdd (or any other Bournonville), Les Sylphides (Chopiniana), Raymonda, and any other rarely seen or „unknown” Petipa choreographies.
12.In the SECOND ROUND one pdd or two variations (different from the First Round) from any major twentieth-century choreographer’s works from Fokine to Forsythe which are stylistically based on classical techniques:
Ashton, Balanchine, Cranko, Fokine, Massine, Milloss, Lifar, Lichine (Graduation Ball only), MacMillan, Dollar (The Duel pdd only), Tudor, Béjart, Petit, Robbins, Neumeier, Forsythe, Spoerli or other internationally known choreographers (see: Grigorovich, Yakobson, Goleizovsky, Zakharov, Vainonen, Harangozó, Seregi and the others).
We recommend the use of „Romeo and Julia” pdd or variations (Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Berlioz) in this Round.
Total stage time must not exceed 3 minutes for each variation, or 12 minutes for pdd.
Attention: The Management of the Competition does not take any legal responsibilities from misuse of copyright, therefore where applicable, the competitor must obtain written permission (see: Balanchine Trust, Fokine Trust and other legal representatives).
13.In the THIRD (Final) ROUND one pdd or two variations from item 11, but different from those in the First Round.
SPECIAL exception is given to dancers under age of 18 years old where they can repeat and choose one variation from the First Round and one variation from the Second Round.
Any choreography by Rudolf Nureyev is welcomed.
THE PROGRAMME
14.Candidates have to arrive in Budapest not later than 12 a.m. on March 10, 2002. All participants - whether competing or non-competing partner - has to check in at the registration desk where general information about the programme will be provided. The ceremony of drawing of numbers will be at 4 p.m. on March 10, 2002 in the Opera House.
15.The First Round will take place on March 11 and 12.
16.The Second Round will take place on March 13 and 14.
17.The Third (Final) Round will take place on March 15.
18.The Prize Giving Gala will be held in the Opera House on March 16.

JUDGING AND PRIZES
19.The competitors will be judged individually according to their performance in the variations and/or pdd.
20.The decisions of the jury are final and cannot be appealed.
21.The following prizes will be awarded:
The GRAND PRIX RUDOLF NUREYEV to the best male dancer:
Diploma and prize money 10.000 USD
For male and female dancers:
Diploma and First Prize 5.000 USD
Diploma and Second Prize 3.000 USD
Diploma and Third Prize 2.000 USD
Special Prizes may be offered to the best young male and female dancer
(born in or after 1984)
Diploma and SP 500 USD
There will be other Special Prizes Diploma for all Finalists.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
1.All competitors are required to supply their own costumes and provide their own make-up, shoes, rehearsal costumes, etc.
2.Management provide:
free piano accompaniment (if necessary). The competitors can bring their own pianist-accompanists, but will have to pay for all their expenses.
ballet masters for daily trainings. The competitors can bring their own ballet master but will have to pay for all their expenses.
3.All competitors dancing to taped-music should bring professional recording on CD or MINI-DISC.

Non-observance of the above can lead to disqualification.

LEGAL ASPECTS
4.By taking part in the RNBC all competitors and non-competing partners waive all performance rights and agree that no fee or royalty will be due to them for their participation in the Competition and the use thereof in any way whatsoever by RNBC. The sole producer of the RNBC which shall have the sole and exclusive rights licence and privilege to record, broadcast, distribute, market and otherwise exploit the Competitions and the participation therein of all materials become the property of the RNBC.
5.No recordings, either film, video, photography, tapes or other means are allowed without the written permission of the Management.
6.By taking part in the Competition each competitor and non-competing partner agrees to be managed by the Direction of the Competition, EDF for three years after 2002 in any kind of guest appearance in Hungary.
