"'Notre Dame de Paris'- video"
I dropped in Dance Books yesterday to purchase a ballet video -preferably 'Notre Dame de Paris'- to survive another quiet, non-ballet-existing month in London. Unfortunately the video was not in the shelf so I asked a shop assistant (or manager?) about availability - he was least helpful and said to me no one had ever recorded the performance. Still unassured, I said I seemed to remember having seen one at Tower Records some time ago. His next response appalled me - he said, without checking any catalogue/stock list, "Why don't you go to Tower then?" ...Is it something you should expect from someone who specialise in a certain field? His arrogant manner made me feel so sad as I always considered the shop something very unique and, special.

I checked two other shops (including Tower) but couldn't find it. Have also checked on the Dancing Times's website but it's not included in their video catalogue (though the list is not comprehensive one). I'm still confident about the existence of the video (I remember Isabelle Guerlin was pictured on the jacket!) but not so sure about the availability HERE. It may be the case it's simply out of stock - but may have been discontinued.

Would anyone please clarify the matter - has anyone seen or possessed the video? Any info. would be very much appreciated.

I have it. It is on "Kirov Soloists: Invitation to the Dance." This is not the one mentioned in your post, but it does exist. Chenchikova and Berezhnoi are perform it here.

V.I.E.W Video Dance Series
34 E. 23rd Street

American format, be warned.

Unfortunately, for what it is worth, I had a similarly discourteous reception at Dance Books twice this summer. I was not asking idiot questions, either... I was surprised, to say the least.

The video with the Paris Opera Ballet and Isabelle Gurein is available in France at the better video shops in Pairs. Try FNAC on the Champs Elysee. However it is available only on the French Secam format. It will give a black and white, fuzzy picture on PAL video players. It can be converted but at 15 per hour!
