"Lower Slip Standing"

I've got a ticket Lower Slips Standing B2 (restricted view)for the first night of The Nutcracker. Basically this was the only one I could get as I left my booking too late. I have no idea how bad this place is. I'm wondering if it's worth taking a half day off work and paying 16 for my train journey on Thursday. Can anyone please advise.

Tomoko, it's not just bad but very very bad. You can see no more than a quarter of the front part of the stage. If I were you, I would not bother at all.

I would suggest that you try to obtain a standing ticket for the rear of the auditorium (Row W). You get an excellent view of the stage, from a central position, looking over everyone's heads, for the princely sum of 3. The only disadvantage is that opera glasses are required if you want a close-up view of the dancers. As of yesterday (like you, I left my booking late!) I was able to obtain a pair of these tickets for 28 Dec from the Box Office, so they seem to be still available. I watched both Onegin and Don Quixote from this position, and find it a better view and more comfortable than the somewhat cramped upper amphitheatre seats, and far, far better than trying to watch from the slips. All for 3 - and they call Ballet elitist!

Hope this helps

Mike

Avoid the standing places in row U in the upper amphi. Your eyeline will be on a par with the people sitting in row T as the standing places are not stepped to accommodate the extra height of row T. You will see nothing unless you shift into the aisle.

This was my experience of the Stravinsky triple last spring - but was too inactive to complain.

And if you suffer from vertigo you definitely shouldn't use it. No, frankly, I think you'd be better off staying at home and watching on TV!

Thank you everyone for posting. Well, I've decided to do Christmas shopping instead ! I'm going to see Darcey on 28th anyway. Good luck to her for her first performance after the maternity leave !
