"George Piper again"

I saw George Piper Dances on tour last night, at Snape Maltings in Suffolk - an auditorium similar in shape and size to the Queen Elizabeth Hall, where they appear next week. The intimacy and atmosphere of the Round House, where their tour was launched, suited the dancers and their choreography very well, and some of the edge of all the pieces was lost in more formal surroundings - but Steptext and Critical Mass still made their effect on the audience.

GPD aren't touring the video piece they did at the Round House - too expensive, I heard - and there is no reference at all in the evening to the Ballet Boyz. An unexpected bonus was a preview of the new work by Charles Linehan, due to be premiered at the QEH. It was described as a 'work in progress' so all I will say is that it's called Truly Great Thing, and I liked it a lot.

I saw them in Bath on Sunday. I always forget what an absurdly small stage it is for dancing.

Steptext got the usual "why don't they put the lights down?" whispers around where I was sitting. It's one of my least favourite pieces - wish they could have got hold of Herman Schmerman instead. (Hey, what if they got Fearful Symmetries too? Can't see the opera house using it again, can you?)

I thought all the dancers did well. It must be very different for Trevitt and Nunn, dancing the same piece night after night after night. I hope they keep it going.

No, I've never seen Feraful Symmetries all the way through, please don't say they'll drop it from the RB rep!
