"Royal Variety Performance"

Does anyone remember a time when the Royal Variety Performance actually had any ballet/dance in the programme? I am sure that there used to be...why don't they include it? -(should I admit to watching this?..anyway)

If you had the chance to choose any piece of ballet to be included in a show of this nature and to wow the audience into thinking 'I really want to see that again', what would it be?

The only ballet I actually remember from one of these shows was the Tweedledum and Tweedledee thing with Lesley Collier to oh heck which Percy Grainger piece was it? I can hear it so clearly in my head and haven't a clue what it was called. That must have been 20 years ago...

Would it have been Country Gardens? ("....in an English Country Garden"...as made famous by the Brighouse and Rastrick Band? It's all a long time ago now!). This was an old English country dance tune that was arranged by Grainger.

I think Darcey B. appeared at the RVP in the Balcony scene pdd from MacMillan's R&J some years ago. I vaguely remember that the Romeo she was intended for (J Cope possibly)was injured, and replaced by someone not quite so tall....Bruce Sansom? Does this jog any memories?

Bussell and Cassidy, I think. Presumably she was intended to dance with either Cope or Zelensky (or was it Cooper?). I know Cassidy stood in at the last moment. Was that the one where she ended up with makeup on her skirt, or am I thinking of the ROH closing gala, which I may be getting it confused with?

Last time I saw dance on the Royal Variety Performance (and should I also be admitting to this?) was a couple years ago when they did a bit of a (pretty cut-price) pdd from AMP's Swan Lake. Felt a bit embarrassed for MB and the performers.
