"Men in Ballet"

I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts about why this country does not support English male dancers who are talented?

Can you give an example of who/when?
or do you just mean in general?

I think you might need to elaborate on the position as you see it. Are you making a point about English vs Welsh and Scottish dancers? or is this about those who trained in UK schools? or something else? And what 'evidence', stats or examples would you use to support the point - its perhaps less clear to some of us than it might be to you. I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, but there seems tremendous competition to get into a company and then progress to the top and all countries/regions/instituutions might feel under represented.

I think there are many reasons why male dancers may not feel very supported here. I am a Mother of 2 children, a boy and a girl who both study dance at the same school and who also attend the same primary school.
The children are encouraged to bring in to school and share any achievements from outside activities.
my Daughter is positively encouraged every time she brings in something relating to her dance, and while my sons achievements are acknowledged I would say that the reaction is in no way the same.
My son was recently accepted into a 'elite' class within his dance school and went into tell his teacher who sadly didn't quite have the same enthusiasm as he does!
It seems that it is mainly the boys who attend dance schools on a more regular or even full time basis that are able to be encouraged enough to progress into a career.
I think there is support for male dancers but not across the whole of society and for a lot of people the prejudice or indifference to male dancing starts at school or earlier.

Here endeth the lesson.......lol!

The cultural bias against male ballet dancers in the UK is so strong I am amazed that there are any young men in dance today
