"Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet"

Has anyone seen the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet, who are appearing at the Festival Hall in December and January? They're doing Bourmeister's Snow Maiden and Swan Lake.

Helen, I wanted to ask the same question ! I think they are performing in the UK for the first time. The company was founded in 1928 and they have a couple of excellent prima ballerias, I heard. Well, I'm going to see them anyway.

I saw this company about 10 years ago in La Sylphide when I was on a trip to Moscow. I remember it as a decent company. This Russian company doesn't generally tour very much, though it toured America two years ago.

This company was the very first Soviets appeared in the West in 1956 - in Paris, with the famous Violetta Bovt, supported by Alla Osipenko of the Kirov.
There is no Bourmeister anymore there. Nevertheless, the corps is fine still. Some excellent character soloists, too.
Enjoy.

I am very happy to hear the Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet, known as Moscow Musical Theatre Ballet in Japan, is giving their first London season soon.

I am very interested in this company and have some favourite dancers. As they tour Japan regulary, they came to Japan in summer of 2000 and will come back 2002 hopefully, their significant Swan Lake is a marvellous masterpiece.

Miss Chernovbrovkina and Mr Zababurin are very beautiful leading couple, hasband and wife partnership like Oaks and Edur in ENB, also I love partnership of Miss Krapivina and Mr Smilensky, and very impressive character dancer Mr Erlykin.

I am flying to London just after Christmas, so I will be able to see their Snow Maiden!

In Southbank Centre website has a brief introduction of Snow Maiden and Swan Lake of Moscow Stanislavsky Ballet , which is in PDF format.

Hi Hiromi - So good to see you here!

Thanks for telling us about the dancers - SBC's website is very well constructed - synopsis for both productions are available etc., but they (quite naturally) lack the casting info.! I'll try & find out the info. from the Box Office some time next week....

Wishing you a safe journey to London!
