"Next poll: Non-dancers in dancing roles"

The next poll will be on non-dancers in dancing roles. Think of any 'celebrity' - movie star, actor, sportsperson, comedian, politician etc. - and then think of a dancing role you'd like to see them in. Age and body-shape are unimportant - for instance, if you think Maggie Smith would have made an interesting 'Giselle' say so - on this thread - and we'll put 'er up. (Your suggestion can be serious or jokey).

I'll start the ball rolling with Maureen Lipman in any of the Martha Grahame roles - I can easily see her with a big lipsticked mouth pushing out one of those stretchy frocks with her knees.

   Wow

Another ground-breaking, insightful, ballet.co thread which really dares to go where no other intellectual deconstruction of dance has ever dared or dreamed to before.

A little bit sad to see that you are using Hollywood to glorify talented dancers. Do you have no idea?

I am not sure this poll is going exactly how I intended it - I really only wanted single characters for single roles and I had hoped that we would spread the net into politics, sport etc rather than keep strictly to show business (although I do think that Alan Rickman is an absolutely brilliant suggestion for Drosselmeyer, and of course someone has now suggested Damon Hill as Solor). What we are now going to do is to let these ideas accumulate some more, but in the meantime we thought we would do a fairly needy piece of research - Bruce wants to know more about those who visit Ballet.co, particularly in the light of the fact that since the last time we did a 'research' type piece - over two years ago - we have grown approximately 4 times larger, and thats a lot of new people. So expect a few polls that 25% of you may have seen before. We'll take the first one live later today and it is going to be "How many years have you been seeing ballet and dance?" As usual we'll open up a thread to discuss the specific poll when it goes live.
Meanwhile, keep on posting your choices of non-dancers in dancing roles here.

Well, I did actually have a couple of suggestions for non-dancers from the world of sport in dancing roles, but one of them threatened me with dire retribution (of the tickly kind) if I associated him with ballet so I'm backing out...

Well this suggestion might become a reality

Posh Spice as Elaine Page in the remake of "the Red Shoes!"

Maybe David Beckham can take the role be the highly strung, serious minded composer Julian Crastner or Victor Lementov!

But I think that if this is ever going to happy they will get a professional dancer to do all the dance roles!

I think Madonna as Odette/Odile would be quite something. (I'm afraid the rest of the cast would have to be bodyguards).
