"Charles Jude and a new version of Coppelia"

This sounds interesting - Coppelia a la Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly:

"PARIS, 14 October 2001 - On their first visit to Paris, Charles Jude and the National Ballet of Bordeaux presented a buoyant, light-hearted and very successful new reading of Coppélia at the Chatelet.

Based on E. T. A. Hoffmann's macabre story, Der Sandmann, Jude's version conjures up New York in the 1950's, with its shiny chromium motor cars, fast food bars, sleek-haired Mafiosi and high-rise apartment blocks."

   Hello,
I attended a performance of Jude's Coppélia last winter (since I live in Bordeaux, where he is the director of the Opéra Ballet). I loved it, it was so light and funny, the choreography was nice and the acting and pantomime clear and expressive - and the settings and props were really very cleverly done. I appreciated it all the more since I like the classics of US musicals very much, and it evocates many of them (I'm thinking about New York, New York and West Side Story particularly).
