"Clement Crisp interview... questions needed"

Ismene Brown, The Daily Telegraph dance critic, is interviewing the much loved Financial Times critic Clement Crisp for us in this his 70th year. To say we feel rather good about this arrangement is a huge understatement!

And as part of it *you* have the opportunity to contribute some questions for Clement. Have to be quick though - our list needs to close on Monday evening (1 October 2001)

So lets be having some good ones from you...

I supose there is the obvious one: "What are your feelings about the future of the Royal Ballet?".

Another obvious one "How do you feel the standard of ballet these days compares with that of past decades?"

"Will you be updating 'The Ballet Goers Guide' in the near future?

(It is a very useful and interesting bible to have but does need updating!)

This is a bit like Pete's but not quite identical:

In what ways do you think ballet in Britain has changed during your career as a critic?

If an American can add some questions, I would like to know what kind of training, official and unofficial, he had, and what qualities he thinks a good critic needs.

Please could you tell us how and why you became a dance critic?
Thank you,
Sarah

How much attention should Artistic Directors, Companies and Dancers pay to dance critics?

(No disrespect intended)

Do you see any likelihood that a genius ballet choreographer will emerge in this century, who is of the same calibre as Petipa and Balanchine in the last two centuries?

What are the high points of your career so far? (Any low points?)

At this point in your career, do you think being a critic has blunted your enjoyment of ballet, or enhanced it?

Are there any ballets you never want to sit through again?

Are there any ballets you would like to see revived?

Hope that's not too many questions!

I know you had a great respect for Peter Darrell, choreographer and founder and original Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet.

With Scottish Ballet's present troubles in mind; How important do you think any Artistic Director is to the quality and direction of any ballet company?, and does the very future of any ballet company depend on its AD's qualities? If so what do you think these qualities are/should be?
