"Mini-poll on sex and Ballet/Dance..."

This weeks Mini-poll is inspired by Mark Lawson's piece in the Guardian about what the point of ballet might be and in which he talked about discovering its sexiness - there is more on his piece here:
http://www.danze.co.uk/dcforum/happening/2072.html

The poll is at the top of the page and we invite comments, discussion and further thoughts here....

One wonders if those 30+% who see little or no relationship between sex and dance, have actually ever had sex.

Come on, of all the art forms the implicit and explicit relationship to sex and the body is the most overt, intense and obvious. Let's stop being so goddamned British about the whole thing, there is nothing wrong with sex, rather the opposite, a joyous, intense celebration of the physical, of being alive, of being a part of the world and sharing with another the wonderful immediacy of being alive. Which is what art is all about.

Dance is sex transmogified into art. And thank God for that

And one wonders if those people who see a strong relationship between dance and sex don't need to get out more...

Maybe some of us aren't being "so goddamned British about the whole thing", we just all see dance differently? I didn't notice anything in the poll that asked if anyone thought there was anything wrong with associating dance with sex.

Sarah's posting at 6.24 last night has been removed, as have subsequent postings which either quoted it or referred back to it. While robust argument is perfectly acceptable on ballet.co, personal abuse is quite another matter - and will not be tolerated.

LAST EDITED ON 12-10-01 AT 12:02 PM (GMT)

Strong 32.3%
Quite obvious 29.0%
Slight: 19.4%
Non-existent: 12.9%
Other: 6.5%

Perhaps I put this poll up without thinking too much about it, but I wanted to go with it while the memory of Mark Lawson's recent Guardian piece was still fresh in the mind.

I can't help but think that the 12.9% readers who found the link between ballet/dance and sex to be 'non-existent' are missing an important part of the point, but the fact that they still find it rewarding enough to pay for tickets could possibly mean that the majority of us have got rather a skewed vision of the art form! In the end, though, the only important thing is that we all love it, whatever the reason.
