"RB liar!"

On the RB website , it is said that Zenaida Yanowsky "joined Paris Opera Ballet in 1993 and her repertory included there Kitri in Don Quichotte , Tchaikovsky pdd , Esmeralda , Le Corsaire etc..." It's completely false!Am I right to say that she wasn't accepted by POB and that her contract was just a one-year contract to replace the injured members of the corps? Can anyone confirm?Did she really dance Kitri , etc...?

I would have thought all the info that the RB gives out comes from the dancers but wouldn't it have been better for you to try and check your facts before you accused people of being liars.

Your information is absolutly correct, she may have danced these pieces somewhere, but not Paris Opera, this is a fact that can be verified by Paris Opera, so B.m eat humble pie

Why should Bruce eat humble pie? Traditionally artists of all sorts have embroidered their past history. Read any theatre programme, exhibition catalogue, or concert programme and you will find exaggerations. I do not know or really care if Yanowski has told all about her past; I am more interested in how she dances.
Writing Liar across the top of your posting suggests to me that you are ill mannered and unpleasant, maybe you are not but you certainly give that impression.
Bruce just asked you to put your name to the posting.

I'd have thought it was very unlikely indeed - almost inconceivable - that Yanowsky would be claiming to have danced ballerina roles at POB when she hasn't. It looks to me much more like a simple mistake.

Her biography in the printed programmes has always read "Trained at...won prizes at...joined POB in 1993. Her repertoire includes Kitri..."

Someone, almost certainly not her, has expanded this for the online version as "...joined POB in 1993, where her repertory included Kitri ..." - quite a different thing.

In any case, I'd have thought that 'surely there's a mistake in Yanowsky's CV' would be a more civilised way of putting it than 'Liar!'

hear hear! (to the posting just above).
what might not have occurred to the anonymous visitor is the role that an editor plays when a biography like this gets printed. it isn't unusual, for instance, when a dancer has done the 'don quixote' pas de deux at a gala, for an editor to get hold of this fact and extrapolate somehow that this means that she has danced kitri. or if a dancer is asked if they have done 'don quixote' to say yes, truthfully, and to have the listener assume that this means the entire ballet. i use this just as an example.
but!
when someone comes on a well-respected board like ballet.co simply to use shock words and fling anonymous (read: cowardly) accusations about, it is done to shock and is so puerile as to be beneath serious response.
(aren't i the schoolteacher today?- but i meant it).

LAST EDITED ON 21-08-01 AT 06:58 PM (GMT)

I confirm that Zenaida Yanowsky was just a contract dancer in POB, she was just in the corps. His kind of dancer is called in France, Surnuméraire. And like that, they can't dance any tittle role on POB stage. They just dance in corps, replacing injuried dancers, but as it's very often the case, they can dance very earlier.
I think she was too tall for POB asked size and it's for that she must leave the company.
I believe as corps member she danced in Shadow act in Bayadere and certainly other ballets, but it will be verify wich.

As said Patricia, perhaps, did she make gala with POB dancers and did she dance all these pdd.
I already saw Dancer biographies and they indicate, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, and so on, even if they never have dance the full complete role but just pdd.

RB is not a liar, he just write what the dancer give as information on their biography.
I just give this information about Yanowsky even if you are completely anonymous and have hard word, because someone else could ask for the same question by the fact.

Concerning an e-mail address, to have an e-mail where your address is also anonymous than your pen-pall, it is not to have a true identity and it's also too act cowardly.

Yanowsky, a beautiful dancer, is indeed a liar. In numerous copy it is referred to her lustrous blonde locks, which she has NEVER denied in press.

However, I was behind her in Boots in Covent Garden, and I distinctly saw her purchase a home dye kit in Blonde Venus from Clairol. Moreover, as I was directly behind her in the queue I saw visible roots of mousy brown hair.

I ask you, how long may a venerable institution such as the Royal Ballet be expected to stand for this sort of duplicity. And in a principal no less. Shame on her.

Don't you navel-gazing pseudo-aesthetes have anything apporoaching a sense of humour, you start a thread entitled liar, you respond to it, all the while ignoring the fact that Yenowsky is a top-knotch dancer. The hair-dye ref was a mocking of all the self-importance that I find in these pages, that's why I prefer criticaldance.com, lot less stupidity, lot more serious discussion about dance today.

P.S. Zenaida if you're reading sorry about saying you weren't a natural blonde, but it's a lot less harsh then calling you a professional liar who doesn't cut the mustard as a dancer

It would be very easy to get into flame wars on all this and that I don't want or seek.

Each to their own and if anybody does not not like it here and prefers it elsewhere than elswhere is where they should be. Nobody is forced to come here.

This is a sad thread and I hope we can just leave it and get on with enjoying dance in whatever way wish.
