"Joseph Cipolla"

I think it would be a real shame if we let Joseph Cipolla leave BRB without a word. He's been a mainstay of the company for 15 years and danced the leading roles in the classics as well as many other parts over a wide range. He's the sort of grown up, mature dancer that every company needs - I remember him with the greatest pleasure and will miss him a lot.

Jane -where is he going/why? I had no idea he was leaving.

I agree that he is a thoughtful dancer who I've very much enjoyed seeing the few times I have been to his performances

I think he will be much missed. I was hoping we might see him for a final performance in September at Sadlers.

Joseph Cipolla and Catherine Batcheller are going to live in Cape Cod and set up a dance company there.

   Jane,

I agree with the sentiments, but Joe and Catherine seem to have exited in the close season and I don't think they'll be back.

The detail escapes me, but one of the O'Hare brothers also finished at BRB when they were in the States - due, I think to persistent injury problems and ballet castings/performances. Again, it deprived many loyal fans of an opportunity to bid farewell - but he got a prolonged ovation at the packed BRB Friends talk he gave later.

It's all such as shame though.

It was Kevin O'Hare who retired from dancing, but I think he is now BRB's Company Manager. I also thought I saw Joseph and Catherine in the audience at San Fransisco Ballet last week.

Like to add my two cents... I've always enjoyed Jo's dancing and BRB without his flowing locks will seem a poorer place. I still vividly remember his dancing in Las Hermanas - totally chilling as the sweating, leering oversexed suitor.

I am sorry to hear about Joseph and Catherine, they will both be missed. I wish them well in their new venture.

It was Kevin who left during the visit to the States. He undertook a theatre management course with the RSO and is now back with company. Hopefully we will see him in character parts when the company settles back in to the Hippodrome after November.

Cipolla is prominently featured on one of the framed posters on the staircase that leads down into the Linbury - it was the BRB triple of Le Tricorne / Theme and Variations / Pillar of Fire. I remember him rather fondly as the Miller in Le Tricorne - with Chenca Williams, I think.

I first saw Cipolla do an increadibly sleazy suitor in Las Hermanas, then he was scheduled to do the Prince in a performance of Sleeping Beauty I'd booked for. How could he pull off 2 such diametrically opposed roles? He did, beautifully, as he has virtually everything else he did that I've seen. Even when he's been in character roles his stage presence has been such that he's always made his mark. I'm very sorry to see him go.
