"Solymosi brothers - where?"

Where do these dancers disappear to? I was looking on the net for any mention of where Zoltan and his brother might be dancing and nothing found!

I am not a big fan of Zoltan, but was just curious after seeing SB to note that he is not listed with the RB this year. Was he just a guest and no longer? Has he moved on to another company?

Lara, Tamas Solymosi dances with the Vienna State Opera Ballet. the Dutch National Ballet and also with the Hungarian state ballet company in Budapest, where he is doing Swan Lake this weekend.

Zoltan Solymosi was actually a member of the Royal Ballet for a couple of seasons but he left some years ago and has not, so far as I know, been heard of since as a dancer - not outside Hungary, anyway - unless anyone knows any different?

I dunno, but I think this is so odd. Or is this just the way things are in the ballet world? Here today, forgotten tomorrow?

thanks Jane for the info

Zoltan Solymosi had a rep for being a right royal prima donna. Rude, truculent and isulting. He didn't leave the Royal he was fired after kicking up a stink in rehearsals for Apollo and describing the choreography as "#####". (His words not mine)

He danced then with London City Ballet, and was conspicuous in his disdain for the company, and then with ENB where I remember him coming to the end of a solo once then just walking off, snubbing the applause of the audience.

I don't think he was the happiest bunny in the rabbit hutch ever, but let's face it, if he carried that attitude to subsequent employers are we really that surprised he was never heard of again?

old news but last sighting of Zoltan I had was at Glyndebourne in 1996 (doesn't time fly) - he was partnering Ravenna Tucker in a pdd in act three of Eugene Onegin.

She was gorgeous - no real memory of him.

LOL! I love it. I thought his dancing was a bit of a bore myself. But late one evening I just got curious about where he was. I think it was after reading the article here on Tamas the brother.

Zoltan was not the pretty one, was he.

Thanks for all the info folks!

Solymosi, was the most exiting dancer The Royal had since Nureyev. but like others before and after, The Royal destroyed him, which accounted for his behavior towards the end of his time in the U.K.
We need more male dancers with his the sex appeal. the most wonderful Manon was his and Bussell's, he made a wonderful Romeo
and his Albrect superb.
The younger Solymosi brother , good but did not have the impact of Zoltan.
I ask myself do the so called ballet lovers who post on these pages enjoy any dancer, or does there kick come from not enjoing dance, but pulling the dancers apart, Oh to be more graceous towards the artists, and less unkind.

   >Solymosi, was the most exiting dancer

Even accounting for the fact we all see things differently I struggle rather a lot with this statement.

He could dance but could not act an awful lot as I recall. From what I have seen of Nureyev he surrounded his ballerina in ardor. I never saw that with Zoltan. Ever. Perhaps it was me but he always seemed a little absorbed in his preening or thinking about what he might do next....

Sorry, but may as well speak our mind particularly of somebody who has moved on. I'd hate this board to just be a place that put dancers on pedestals and pretended everybody was simply super...

Oh, I wish you hadn't use the word "preening" - it's brought back to mind his Albrecht. His settling himself down by Giselle's grave was quite incredible - was this a man torn apart by grief and guilt? No, he seemed to be more concerned about placing himself to show his best profile to the audience.

Having said that, I saw him do a very good Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux with Bussell, and I thought him very effective as Belaiev in Month in the Country, though whether it was for the right reasons I'm not sure!

My memory of him in the Tchaikovsky pdd at the Nureyev memorial gala was clutching at the wings as he overbalanced in a turn.

Was he really so self absorbed? I do remember in The House on TV Dowell shoving his thumb and forefinger into his face to make him smile at the curtain call at the end of the dress rehearsal for Beauty.

Zoltan: On the RB video of SB he made no impact on me, sorry.
Different when guesting in "Taming of the Shrew" here in Munich or also as Basilio (but, heaven, this was 7 years ago!!) - I thought he COULD do really well if it was a role to show off his gifts - but neither much acting nor smiling partnering...
Tamas: Thought he was good Oberon and partner in Neumeier's "Midsummernight Dream" - cannot say much more about him....
