I thought I'd make sure he leaves the premises!

Can I suggest drinks for the great and the good in the Floral Hall near the foot of the escalator in the first interval?

I'm coming on Saturday, so I'll try to find you. I've never met any of you, so I'll have to guess who you are! Maybe I could stand in the Floral Hall and shout "Bruce!"

Well I'll be there in my summer linen (cream and v crumpled) suite I reckon - I'm not small so if you miss me you need to get your eyes tested! I guess most of the other readers will be in a tux or Channel - how else is one to dress for the Floral Hall?!!!

I'm ironing my summer linen as soon as I've finished typing this! (long and grey), and just to make me REALLY noticeable I'll be wearing a 1" wide silver choker with a white agate type stone in the middle of it. (what's the betting I burn the dress and lose the jewellery before then?!? But that's my planned outfit!) But if you look at our website (www.home-of-the-bears.freeserve.co.uk)
I can be seen on the Tim pages!

For some reason my mentioning the cream linen suite seems to have brought out the worst in readers....

I will not look like the man from Delmonte - no fedora hat and I certainly won't be drinking orange juice for example! Nor will I be like Alec Guinness in Our Man in Havana. And Ok I will iron the crumpled linen, but starch it? Never!. Finally I would like to note that I have no plans to stand for election in Tatton or anywhere else for that matter. Thank you and I look forward to seeing your own sartorial elegance!

I thought I better not go! I just might get completely drunk by drinking too much champagne in celebration of the departure of Dowell. For me it is too much like the Berlin Wall coming down - it is amazing how history repeats itself!!!

Can't quite see how Dowell looks like a wall!...Sorry, I'm rather excited as tomorrow is my birthday (23)and I am lucky enough to be going to the matinee performance! I think that the line up looks just as good as the evening one so I'll let you all know!

Well, I hope that all those going to the PM show have an amazing time (I bet the atmosphere will be totally electric!) and I hope that Sir A gets a huge shower of flowers!

Enjoy yourselves!

Lily

I'm willing to bet that for most of the audience the high point of the evening will be the sight of a very old lady being taken to the ballet by her daughters as a birthday treat. The orchestra was heard rehearsing the National Anthem and 'Happy Birthday to You' the other day. That too could be the end of an era.

Yes, I can't exactly see "Por Vos Muero" and Mats Ek's Carmen being quite the royal family's thing... but you never know. I am looking forward to being there tomorrow night and I think the latest casting looks absolutely stunning. The Royal Ballet at the height of its powers!

Hi! I didn't read this topic until now and I've just come back from the Theatre! Sorry I didn't spot any of you! I'm on such a high! I really enjoyed the evening and thought everyone gave a sensational performance. The evening felt like a Royal Gala, so many distinguished guests I really didn't know which way to turn.
One of the highlights for me was Manon Pdd with Benjamin and Kobborg, I thought they both gave very a charasmatic performance tonight as did Wildor and Bolle the night before. (I'd love to see a full Des Grieux from Bolle.) Wildor was stunning in The Dream, as always. I didn't know what to expect from Urlezaga in Don Q, and to my delight he was really amazing. He may not jump as high as Acosta but he certainly pulled off his tricks at the end of his solo with those amazing multiple double tours! More Virtuosity followed by Meisner in A Month in the Country who also amazed as Puck. I was touched by Guillem in her performance as was when she danced Margueritte and was glad to see JCope partner her tonight. I thought she gave a deeper performance tonight than the night before, was it Cope?
And finally, I was honoured to see the Queen Mother on her triumphant Birthday, a complete surprise to me and many others. For you that weren't there she was really glamourous, dressed in a pink satin gown and the royal jewels she sparkled from the box and every soul was so happy to see her, everyone joined in in singing her the Birthday Song! The evening ended with a heartfelt speech and final curtain call from Sir Dowell. The usual carnations were thrown from the balcony and virtually everyone had their cameras with them making a sea of sparkling flashes. It's a night I'll certainly remember.

I'll be gathering my thoughts for a bit of a review in a minute, but just wanted to add to this thread - great to meet some of you (Bruce you are more or less exactly as I'd pictured you!) and what a FABULOUS night. (ps I thought the QM's dress was more lilac than pink but there you go - her personal gentleman agreed with you about the Manon, he went mad with applause at that point, btw!) Wonderful wonderful programme, wonderful wonderful dancing, and the atmosphere was incredible - a lovely sendoff to (whatever his directorship may or may not have given us) a real ballet legend. I was very moved by his speech and full of admiration for him for getting through it in one piece! Eugene, you are an old curmudgeon, you missed one hell of a night! Knocked spots off the Kirov!
