"Your tips on buying Ballet DVDs in London"

   On my travel to London next week, I want to buy ballet DVDs on the store. Actually living in Paris, I visit occasionally www.amazon.co.uk where I think are more items than that of France. The problem is that I should pay the commission cuz I pay by credit card delivered in France and the shiping cost expensive enough to keep me hesitate to order.

Londoners, it would be very kind of you to let me have some addresses of the DVD stores you know in London, where they have as many ballet DVDs as possible.

Thank you in advance...

   The shop in ROH in Convent Garden stocks lots of DVDs and the selection is updated regularly. The prices are reasonable and they're your best bet in my opinion.

HMV on Oxford Street is also pretty good.

http://www.dancebooks.co.uk is a great website, and they deliver within a few days. If you plan on staying in London for a few weeks, you could probably have them sent to wherever you're staying.

Rather obvious choices I know. Are there any other specialist stores? I'd like to know too!

   Do you come over to London fairly regularly, or are you just an occasional visitor? The reason I ask is that I work just round the corner from the HMV Shop at Oxford Circus in London and I could always check out if they have something in stock before you arrive, if that would be useful. Please feel free to drop me an e-mail, if you think I can help.

   Thanks a lot.

I'm not regular visitor in London, but a frequent one this year.

The last time when I've been to London, it was the end of the june to see the last Swanlake by Kirov. I was very touched by this first meet with Kirov and struck by the emotional movement of the swan played by Svelta Zakharova.

When I've been to Versailles, it was to see her again. I think she played again with Igor Kolb in the "Middle Duet", which was very much loved that night on.

Jane, it would be nice if I can know where I can find the following three items, that I found at Amazon.uk;

1. Margot Fonteyn - A Portrait <1989>DVD
Starring: Margot Fonteyn (Pres/Narr), et al.
Director: Patricia Foy,
<img src="http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005K2DZ.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg"; width=97 height=140 align=left border=0>

2.Manon DVD
Starring: Australian Ballet, Justine Summers, et al.
Director: Maina Gielgud,
<a href="http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0000505GK.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg";><img src="http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B0000505GK.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg"; width=99 height=140 align=left border=0>

3.Carmen DVD
Starring: The Cullberg Ballet, et al.
<img src="http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005BJ9P.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg"; width=98 height=140 align=left border=0>

In particular, I'm attached to the Manon DVD that I cannot find any in Paris.

I think I'll wander around the streets that you've given to me this week anyway hoping to find any interesting DVDs.

I leave Paris tomorrow morning. Jane, cuz I'm going to the street where you're working, don't hesitate, if you want some information on Paris, to ask me, for exemple a brochure of the next season program of Paris National Opera?

I dropped by HMV Oxford Street yesterday and your second list (Manon) was there. Normally the pricing at HMV is a bit cheaper than in the ROH shop. But the choices are more limited.

By the way, Svetlana Zakharova danced 'Tchaikovsky pas de deux' with Igor Kolb in Versailles (not Middle Duet). And bad news is that Kolb's now injured from this ballet.

   Eugene Merrett, thanks, but...

as I said earlier, although I love a lot amazon.co.uk, I prefer buying DVDs on the shops because by amazon I must pay the commission and expensive shipping cost to France.

The photos are embedded from the source of Amazon.co.uk, so natural that all the above items appear on the Amazon.co.uk.

I'm also satisfied with the working way of all the amazons, amazon.co.uk, amazon.com and amazon.fr...

But even though the electronic commerce improved very rapidly, it seems to me that the international frontier exists yet. Need to pay the commission, need to think about exchange rate, etc.
Last time when I ordered something on Amazon.com in USA I had to pass by the Post Office in order to pay the tax. Is it the case for all?

Due to these kinds of inconvenience I think sometimes we are willing to visit the shops.

NO7, thanks for your information about the price comparison.
And in regards to the distribution of the night at Versailles, sorry for my mistake. I've not been sure that it was Svelta in "Middle duet', that's why I said "I think...".
You know, we didn't have any brief program at the entrance. The program on sell was expensive compared to the quality of the content, I think. So I didn' bought it.
And for me, who don't know all the artists of the Kirov, can not distinguish one from the others.
Versailles is very beautiful... but for what should have it to be there? I paid 220 FF including reservation, about 21 pounds, for a minable seat.
I've heard that the Kirov will be in Paris again, that time at the CHAILLOT, where there are more places than Versailles. I think, because the Kirov comes rarely in Paris, it would be better to give chance to see them to more people.
I wanted to be short because these things are already discussed in the previous posting named "the Kirov at Versailles".

   Or you could try Ebay.com. I have seen all the DVDs you are looking for up on Ebay at some point in time or other, in fact there is one particular seller who has a whole stock of Australian Ballet DVDs (new) of which he lists 4 or 5 very cheaply nearly every fortnight.
