"Bruce Sansom"

   Bruce Sansom has been awarded a Vilar Fellowship for Arts Management. The programme is based at the Kennedy Center in Washington and it is the brain-child of Michael Kaiser, the ROH's last Executive Director. According to the story in the Washington Times, which I found on balletalert, Bruce and his fellow award-winners will spend a year studying strategic planning, marketing, fund raising and accounting, as well as attending seminars covering the arts and law. The Washington Times also says that the story is "aimed at preparing tomorrow's arts leaders for an unforgiving economy".

I think this is really interesting. Does it mean that Bruce will succeed Ross Stretton as AD at the Royal Ballet, when it is time for Stretton to move on? The thought must have occured to him. And it is interesting that Kaiser is bringing him to Washington, because he helped Bruce set up the internship at San Francisco Ballet.

The original story is on;

   On that other hand, the employment of Miss Bull in an artistic planning role at the Linbury also makes one wonder about the future. Hmm........

   Thank you for posting this. Bruce has been much missed at Covent Garden this past year and it is good to know he's able to carry on his plan to move into art administration. Michael Kaiser seems to have encouraged both Bruce and Deborah Bull - both intellident, articulate dancers - in that direction. How enlightened.
